GENERAL SUMMARY The Director of Education is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high quality student programs, resulting in academic growth. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Observes and coaches instructional staff on a regular basis to ensure that teachers follow Sylvan’s Instructional guidelines and deliver academic sessions that are balanced and robust Prepares enrollment and ongoing conference documents for Executive Director. Assists in selecting and hiring teachers, ensuring that all new staff meet Sylvan hiring standards. Ensures that all teachers are trained and certified to deliver Sylvan programs and assessments. Assists Executive Director in managing teaching staff to meet Center needs and to control labor costs Partners with Executive Director to run day-to-day operations including customer account management Ensures that initial and ongoing progress assessments are administered according to Sylvan standards Monitors student progress through a consistent Program Quality Review process to ensure academic goals are achieved. Keeps Sylvan Store stocked and attractive to the students Supports the Executive Director in maintaining ongoing communication with classroom teachers. Checks students in and out of the Center with particular attention to student safety and well-being Greets and assists students, parents, and potential customers according to Sylvan standards Manages teacher schedules and communicates monthly Performs other tasks as required by the Executive Director. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field State teaching credentials Minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred Familiarity with instructional technology and tablet computers Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn Ability to supervise, coach, and develop teachers/instructional staff Strong communication skills Strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible Self-sufficiency in ownership of work and tasks Ability to communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience Ability to work collaboratively; strong team player Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to ten pounds Physical Demands:  The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is required to stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop/kneel. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus.
