Director of Development
Real estate investment and development firm is seeking an experienced Director of Development to lead and manage full life-cycle development projects across a variety of asset classes, including office, retail, multifamily, and mixed-use. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to execute the company’s strategic growth initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Identify and evaluate development opportunities through market research, broker networks, and off-market relationships
Lead site selection, negotiation, and acquisition processes, including LOIs, purchase agreements, due diligence, and closings
Conduct financial analysis, underwriting, and risk assessments
Oversee entitlement strategies and municipal approvals in partnership with consultants and legal advisors
Coordinate site planning, environmental studies, and engineering reviews
Manage all phases of the development process from pre-development through construction and project close-out
Work with internal and external teams on design, permitting, and budgeting
Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards
Support marketing and leasing strategies for commercial tenants or residential occupancy
Interface with brokers, respond to RFPs, and assist in lease negotiation processes
Collaborate with finance team to structure capital stacks, prepare investment packages, and support lender/investor relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners including brokers, municipalities, contractors, investors, and tenants
Represent the firm at industry events and client meetings to drive business development and deal flow
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Urban Planning, Architecture, or related field
7+ years of relevant experience in commercial real estate development
Proven track record in delivering commercial real estate projects from acquisition through completion
Strong financial modeling and project budgeting skills
Effective communicator with ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with project management or real estate software is a plus
Regional travel may be required based on project needs
