POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Dental Services provides strategic leadership, and operational management of all dental services across Aviva Health. As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Dental Services ensures high-quality, patient-centered, and compliant dental care that aligns with HRSA, OSHA, CDC, and state dental board standards. This role manages overall administrative duties, playing a critical role in high-quality service delivery and integration of oral health into primary care.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Administrative and Operational Oversight

  • Leads the day-to-day operations of the dental department operations at all sites, including scheduling, workflows, productivity benchmarks, and key performance indicators.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures that ensure compliance with HRSA guidelines and other accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
  • Oversees procurement, inventory, and maintenance of dental equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborates with the compliance team on quality assurance, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develops, reviews, and updates policies, procedures, process improvement, training, and evaluations that help support efficient clinic workflows, productivity, quality improvement, and customer service.
  • Develops short and long-term programmatic and strategic plans in conjunction with Aviva Health Leadership and Dental Providers.
  • Supports and manages Electronic Dental Records ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Contributes to the development of the Dental Departments annual Board approved budget and productivity goals.
  • Works closely with Finance Department to maintain fiscal accountability of resources and budget.
  • Travels periodically to outlying clinics, conferences, trainings, and other business travel; use of company or personal vehicle for business use.
  • Follows all Aviva Health policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Staff Management and Development

  • Directly supervises Dental Manager, assists in supervision of Supervisors and other dental staff (dentists, hygienists, students); conducts regular performance evaluations.
  • Provides mentorship and training, and supports continuing education opportunities for dental staff; conducts regular one-on-ones and engages regularly with dental leadership staff.
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for dental team members.

Collaboration and Integration

  • Works collaboratively with medical and behavioral health departments to ensure whole-person, integrated care.
  • Serves as a liaison with community partners, schools, and public health agencies to promote oral health education and outreach and workforce development.
  • Represents the dental department at internal leadership meetings and external community or regulatory engagements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field, or equivalent experience required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of management or supervisory experience in a healthcare or medical setting.
  • Experience working in dental clinic; dental management experience strongly preferred.
  • Non-profit or community-health experience; federally qualified health center (FQHC) familiarity or experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytical, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of UDS reporting, sliding fee scale systems, and HRSA compliance preferred.
  • Commitment to serving underserved, diverse, and vulnerable populations.
