Director of Cardiopulmonary Services Position Summary The Director of Cardiopulmonary Services provides leadership and oversight of inpatient and outpatient cardiopulmonary programs. This role is responsible for staffing, regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, and effective communication with hospital leadership and medical staff. The Director ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care, while fostering a collaborative, positive work environment. This position holds 24-hour accountability for department operations and outcomes. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership, direction, and role modeling in professional behavior, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
Collaborate with managers and team leaders to evaluate and enhance patient care delivery, ensuring optimal outcomes in a cost-effective manner.
Drive continuous improvement efforts, including process redesign, cost reduction, service enhancements, and performance optimization.
Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets, ensuring efficient use of manpower, materials, and financial resources.
Oversee staffing, scheduling, performance management, employee development, and compliance with HR policies.
Maintain effective communication and collaboration across hospital departments, medical staff, and community partners.
Promote a positive work environment that supports professional growth, collaboration, creativity, and accountability.
Monitor patient care quality, address concerns, and ensure ongoing competency of staff.
Support staff in professional development through guidance, education, and constructive feedback.
Ensure educational resources are available and staff participation in required training.
Oversee staff orientation, continuing education, and ongoing professional development.
Lead quality improvement initiatives to continuously enhance patient outcomes and department performance.
Ensure compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory standards, as well as hospital policies and professional standards of care.
Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and best practices that align with organizational goals.
Represent the hospital in community and regional activities.
Other duties as assigned.

Education Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program (required)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or Business Administration (preferred)
Experience Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in cardiopulmonary or related service (required)
At least 3 years of leadership/management experience in Cardiopulmonary Services (preferred)
Licenses & Certifications Current Iowa Respiratory Care Practitioner License
NBRC Credentials (Registered Respiratory Therapist or equivalent)
Iowa Mandatory Reporter Certification (Child and Dependent Adult Abuse)
