Purpose
Monitor and maintain financial activity on Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE) accounts, assist with preparation of CSE annual budgets and financial reporting, provide guidance on business-related policies, serve as accountant on dean’s office accounts, and provide high-level financial analysis. Manage staff within office reviewing accounts payable transactions initiated by CSE department and research center staff. Responsibilities
Monitor and maintain CSE accounts including distribution of cost share funds, start-up funds, indirect cost return, stopgap account activity and other dean's commitments.
Gather projections from dean's office areas and collaborate with Chief Business Officer to review and finalize both the official university and internal CSE budgets.
Supervise full time staff reviewing accounts payable transactions initiated by CSE departments and research centers.
Review dean's office account activity for accuracy and compliance with various university policies as part of preparation of monthly expense reports to dean’s office areas. Provide additional financial reporting on dean's discretionary funds, matching equipment funds, start-up funds, and other CSE accounts. Assist CSE staff with ad hoc financial reporting.
Serve as accounting contact and Workday Cost Center manager on dean’s office accounts. Review and approve accounts payable documentation funded by dean's office accounts.
Assist the Chief Business Officer with financial duties including set up of new accounts, preparation and review of funds transfers, Electronic Office management, serve in Workday Security Partner and Financial HR Executive roles, provide guidance to CSE faculty/staff on business related policies and systems, and act as back-up in all financial areas in Chief Business Officer's stead.
Use information provided by VP for Research Office on annual CSE indirect cost return and prepare reports for review by Associate Dean for Research and Chief Business Officer before finalizing distribution to CSE departments and research centers.
Coordinate trainings with CSE department and research center staff on administrative systems and business functions, prepare and update business related handbook for new CSE faculty, represent CSE and Business Affairs Office in various meetings, other duties as assigned.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or other closely related field
Five years of progressively responsible work in budgeting, finance, or accounting
Working knowledge of university policies, procedures and best practices related to financial affairs.
Working knowledge of University's budget process, accounting system, procurement process, financial reports, COGNOS, DEFINE, Workday.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a wide variety of business contacts, at varying levels of the organization.
Ability to work successfully independently and as a member of a team.
Strong attention to detail.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field.
More than five years of relevant experience in budgeting, finance, or accounting.
Experience working in an academic or research environment.
Salary Range
$110,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions
Work is performed in a standard office environment.
Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation.
Work Shift
Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Work outside of normal business hours may be required on an occasional basis during peak periods.
