Director of AI Optimization and Productization - R&D Data Science & Digital Health at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. This role leads AI optimization and productization efforts across the R&D Data Science & Digital Health (DSDH) team, partnering with Johnson & Johnson Technology (JJT) and senior stakeholders to train, optimize, deploy AI models and AI products across the R&D value chain. Travel up to 25% may be required. Location options include Titusville, NJ; Spring House, PA; La Jolla, CA; Cambridge, MA; or London, United Kingdom.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with AI scientists in DSDH, R&D partners, and JJT to optimize AI models for large-scale training, inference performance, and deployment in AI products.
- Guide and supervise the productization of AI models into applications deployed within R&D or clinical trials for discovery, biomarkers, and clinical endpoints.
- Oversee the use of enterprise MLOps frameworks within DSDH in collaboration with JJT, following company best practices and managing the lifecycle of DSDH AI models.
- Model and plan compute capacity across DSDH projects in partnership with the DSDH Data Strategy & Platform team and JJT.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement with DSDH, JJT, therapeutic areas, functions, and senior leaders across the enterprise.
- Attract, grow, and lead a high-performing technical team focused on AI optimization, productization, and lifecycle management.
- Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. Additional training or certification in MLOps, AI optimization, or product lifecycle is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in AI model development, optimization, and deployment, including managing product lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, operations & maintenance).
- Excellent coding and software development capabilities, with proven ability to lead a technical team toward scalable AI solutions.
- Deep expertise in MLOps frameworks, deployment pipelines, and monitoring tools; familiarity with cloud platforms and containerization (AWS preferred).
- Experience with Agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and governance (e.g., GxP, SaMD).
- Strong leadership in a matrixed organization on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills; ability to align technical execution with business goals and enterprise initiatives.
- Experience in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Tech is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated base pay range: $160,000 – $276,000. Johnson & Johnson offers comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and retirement plans. Eligible for the company’s long-term incentive program and paid time off benefits as described in the posting.
