Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for this position will be in the $116,000-$119,480 range, depending on experience, education, and skills relevant to the position. Please note that the indicated starting salary range describes the range for an incumbent in this position. Most new staff generally start at the beginning of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.
Location: Fully remote eligible - Preference for Durango, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, Albuquerque, NM, Denver, CO, Colorado Springs, CO or Phoenix, AZ.
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Position Summary:
The Director of Accounting is responsible for maintaining and overseeing Conservation Legacy’s financial, accounting and reporting activities. This position is responsible for implementing an overarching financial structure for the organization that supports the viability of the business model and program mission. The Director of Accounting works closely with the leadership team to set the organization’s goals, objectives, and results. In addition, along with the Director of Finance, the Director of Accounting partners with and offers support to the board’s finance committee. The Director of Accounting oversees the accounting department staff with functional responsibility over accounts payable, accounts receivable, GL accounting functions, financial reporting, fixed asset management.  The Director of Accounting will work closely with operations to provide education on finance and accounting policies, procedures, and compliance requirements, as well as to explore how the finance department can support program operations.
Outcomes & Functions of Position:
Financial Leadership
* Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and any other appliable local, state, or federal regulatory requirements across the organization and within program operations. * Establishes and maintains internal financial controls throughout the organization; monitors compliance and implements improvements. * Consistently analyzes financial data and produces accurate reports, assists with timely and complete financials for management and the Board of Directors. * Prepares reports for external financial reporting requirements. * Supports the annual audit with an independent audit firm for all financial audits. * Oversees the audit fieldwork and engages with the auditors as needed. * Directs the maintenance of the organization's general ledger and oversees monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close and financial reporting. * Supports the monthly cash flow planning and ensures availability of funds. * Continually assesses current practices, procedures, and operational processes and identifies appropriate changes or improvements that maximize accuracy and efficiency. * Manage the procurement process and procedures per federal regulations. * Oversee all functions of the AP, AR, and GL teams.  Includes supervision, training, and support of positions working in these functional areas.
Strategic Leadership
* Identifies and develops annual and long-term objectives to support Conservation Legacy’s strategic plan. * Collaborates with the Conservation Legacy Leadership Team and other Conservation Legacy senior leaders. * Leverages strengths of staff and Board members, helps to clarify roles and responsibilities, and provides guidance and mentoring to team members to achieve optimal individual and organizational goals.
Organizational Advocacy * Successfully engages, leads and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve. * Leads and/or participates in organizational-wide teams, projects and initiatives that support the work of the Strategic Plans goals. * Reports any potential complaints within the organization as identified in the Personnel Policy Manual. * Assists or leads other responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications: * Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in accounting field or similar and 10+ years of related experience OR 15 years of related experience. * Minimum of 10 years managing accounting or business systems in non-profit or similar organization preferred. * Experience in grants management as it relates to reporting and compliance of government, corporate and foundation grants. * Significant experience and knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, including fund and grant accounting. * Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms. * Ability to successfully work in a fluid, changing work environment. * Ability to keep others and oneself, in remote locations, accountable to expectations. Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements. * Master’s Degree preferred.
