Role The Materials Planning Director is responsible for developing production and supply plans considering forecasts, material availability and manufacturing capacity. This role identifies and maintains planning parameters in ERP systems to optimize subassembly production and raw material supply plans. It includes preparing and processing requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services, and supplies for customer-related processes or internal use. The role may provide materials to manufacturing areas based on planned production schedules and supports the shipping of finished goods to distribution centers. It includes buyers, planners and inventory control roles. This position reports to the Vice President of Global Planning and Procurement and is part of the Global Supply Chain Management team located in Sunnyvale and/or Lodi, CA and will be on-site. Responsibilities Lead a Global Material Planning and Procurement team of 15+ reports supporting Cepheid’s global IVD manufacturing footprint. Lead, mentor, and develop effective and efficient global teams. Design and execute strategic plans to optimize materials management processes (Plan for Every Part, Inventory Management, change control execution). Establish and maintain standard work for the team on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly cadence. Analyze data and collaborate with other departments to accurately plan, procure, and manage/improve material requirements (MRP signal fidelity, Master Data Management accuracy, supplier forecasts, lead times, minimum order quantities). Apply Danaher Business System (DBS) continuous improvement approaches. Design and execute predictable, timely, and cost-effective planning and distribution of direct materials to meet production and operational needs (inventory optimization). Track key metrics such as on-time delivery, inventory turns, and downtime due to material availability. Develop and implement supplier scorecards and daily management metrics to track and report performance. Essential requirements Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics or Engineering with 14+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience 4+ years of people management experience Strong proficiency with MRP planning systems 4+ years demonstrated experience with MRP systems Travel Ability to travel up to 25%, overnight, domestic and international Preferred experience Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments Medical device/regulatory industry experience Experience working with global teams/direct reports Compensation and benefits Cepheid, a Danaher operating company, offers a broad array of comprehensive and competitive benefit programs. This range is the current estimate at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus/incentive pay and a comprehensive benefits package (paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) for eligible employees).
