Job Title: Director, Maintenance and Asset Reliability Location: Chicago, IL (must fill one opening here), Richmond, VA, or Portland, OR (100% onsite – 2 total openings) Industry: Manufacturing & Production Job Category: Engineering – Mechanical Job Summary Provide technical leadership for Progressive Maintenance (PM) in a union environment across multiple U.S. plant sites. Lead asset reliability strategies and continuous improvement initiatives to drive safety, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and technical skill development. Responsibilities Lead and coach plant maintenance teams on proactive abnormality identification and resolution.
Implement governance and institutionalize planned maintenance culture.
Deploy and leverage CMMS (e.g., SAP PM/MM) to manage work orders, PMs, parts inventory, and MRO.
Enhance spare parts systems and improve unplanned vs. planned maintenance efficiency.
Develop strategic programs to increase reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
Lead corporate maintenance initiatives using best practices in FMCG manufacturing.
Analyze maintenance metrics (e.g., MTBF, downtime, PM compliance) for continuous improvement.
Partner with HR for recruitment and testing of skilled maintenance associates.
Lead technical training programs across all plant sites.
Share best practices via workshops, benchmarking, and cross-plant collaboration.
Required Experience and Skills 10+ years in Maintenance & Engineering leadership roles within FMCG industry.
Proven success implementing TPM/Progressive Maintenance.
Demonstrated asset reliability leadership and team coaching in unionized settings.
Experience with CMMS tools (preferably SAP PM/MM), lean/TPM/5S/6 Sigma principles.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytics capabilities.
Experience working with broader supply chain and in labor-regulated environments.
Education & Certifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or technical field (required)
MBA or specialization in TPM, Lean, or Project Management ()
Other Requirements Legally eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Familiar with OSHA, FDA, and regulatory compliance
Excellent English communication skills (written & verbal)
Willingness to travel occasionally across U.S. sites
Compensation and Benefits Base Salary: $141,000 – $246,750 (based on experience, skills, and budget)
Bonus Eligible: Yes (with potential for overachievement payout)
