Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As Director, Lab Operations, you are responsible for the following: Responsibilities Operational management: overseeing daily research wide lab-based operations and strategies, ensuring all labs are well maintained, stockroom inventories and other supplies are met by closely working with Research department lab managers, lab services, facilities, engineering, procurement and finance. Compliance and safety: staying updated on all relevant regulations and guidelines (PPE, hazard levels, waste streams) and coordinating with EHS and facilities to ensure Researchers adhere to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Oversight of research wide Lab Asset Management Program (LAMP) and ensure service levels (KPIs), budgets, capex utilization, staffing are achieved and proactively being optimized and tailored to Research requirements. Create and maintain lab operation budgets, goals, resource allocation, and manage procurement processes on behalf of Research. Preparing and presenting reports on lab-based optimization initiatives, space planning strategies that align with organizational goals, budgets and performance metrics to stakeholders and collaborators. Managing personnel and teams:hiring, training, and mentoring lab personnel, including direct reports, contractors and cross-functional teams. Strategic planning: contributing to the development and implementation of laboratory strategies and KPIs aligned with organizational goals. Collaboration: working with other departments and stakeholders to support research initiatives and translate findings into practical applications. Minimal Requirements & Qualification Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline with 12 years of laboratory management (oversight of lab operations) in a biotech or pharmaceutical research-based environment. In depth knowledge of lab safety and compliance regulations. Knowledge of advanced laboratory techniques, equipment, information systems (LIMS) and software applications. The ability to analyze situations, identify issues, and make sound decisions that are in the best interests of broader research organization and lab scientists is essential. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, organizational and project managements skills. Experience managing personal and cross-functional teams. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
