Role Overview:
Could you be our next Director, Investigations & Associate General Counsel ? Globe Life is looking for a Director, Investigations & Associate General Counsel to join the team!
In this role, you will be responsible for providing broad oversight of a team of investigators performing end-to-end investigations across the business lines and within the subsidiaries as part of the Company’s focus on its Compliance and Legal Program. The Director of Investigations oversees investigative efforts, reviewing and approving cases, in addition to ensuring the delivery of timely and accurate regulatory reporting. The Director of Investigations ensures significant issues and trends are effectively tracked and communicated to management.
The Director of Investigations also works closely with law enforcement, regulatory agencies and industry counterparts to proactively share intelligence, best practices, etc. Additional responsibilities for this role include providing leadership direction, attracting, assessing, developing, motivating and retaining a successful team. The Director of Investigations ensures consistent quality of activities, processes and outputs by reinforcing effective review practices.
This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX ( WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday) .
What You Will Do:
Maintain relationships with government agencies, coordinate site visits for regulators, coordinate implementation and compliance with corrective action plans, as needed.
Investigate and manage a wide array of workplace misconduct incidents, including harassment, discrimination, and fraud.
Highlight priority investigations.
Escalate investigations to senior management and work with various stakeholders to mitigate risk to the business.
Identify, develop, and implement reasonable, risk-based internal controls to prevent, detect, and report incidents, or, as appropriate, oversee their implementation.
Achieve compliance with Company policies and procedures pursuant to Company Compliance Plan.
Coordinate with SVP Legal & Compliance to ensure Company Compliance Plan is followed.
Coordinate with Internal Audit Department to ensure Company Compliance Plan is followed.
Achieve compliance with laws and rules relating to business practices promulgated in the jurisdictions in which the Company does business.
Evaluate whether internal controls are working effectively and identify weaknesses or gaps in controls.
Ensure that the quality of investigations, timeliness of reports, and efficiency levels meet the standards determined by policy and law.
Recommend appropriate and consistent disciplinary measures for violations of Company policies and procedures.
Identify, evaluate, and resolve or oversee the resolution of gaps relating to internal controls.
Support the Global Compliance Plan and Operational Risk in serving as the company's point of contact with regulatory supervisors, law enforcement, and other government agencies on matters relating to investigations.
Direct, coordinate, and monitor the activities of a professional staff, inclusive of supervisors, as well as a staff of investigators, engaged in the performance of confidential and complex investigations.
Manage the work and performance of the investigators by providing regular coaching and feedback while fostering an inclusive team environment.
Help direct activities involving the tracing, identification, and recovery of lost assets as well as help set guidelines on how research and investigations should be conducted.
Use a variety of diagnostic and forensic technology techniques, to help determine key areas of risk and assess how well that risk is managed.
Collaborate with management to develop mitigation strategies.
Stay up to date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry guidelines that affect Globe Life. Monitor regulatory developments and assess their impact on the Company’s operations. Provide guidance and support to various business units to ensure compliance with applicable requirements. Adjust investigation strategies and standards accordingly.
Follow and ensure consistent application of Company policies and procedures.
Collaborate with other members of the legal and compliance departments as needed.
Collaborate with outside counsel on investigative issues.
Comprehensive understanding of attorney/client privilege, maintaining compliance with Legal Rules of Professional Responsibility and confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
What You Can Bring:
Juris Doctor is required.
Must be licensed to practice law in at least one State.
10+ years of general legal experience with 5+ years of experience in managing investigatory or regulatory roles is required.
Working knowledge or experience of life or health insurance industry is preferred.
Prior in-house legal department experience is not required but is a plus.
Prior work with compliance plans is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.
