Job Description
The Director of Interfacility Transport is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial management of the hospital system's interfacility transport program. This position will advise hospital management regarding the status of patient transport and care, budgetary projections for the division, collect and report data/metrics/analytics and quality improvement processes. The Director of Interfacility Transport will anticipate and estimate the future needs of the division to improve the quality of patient care. Cooperation and coordination with staff, other hospital departments and local community partners is essential to this position. Additionally, the Director of Interfacility Transport will be responsible for scheduling, training coordination for the division and working directly with the Interfacility Transport Medical Director regarding medical care protocols, procedures, recertification and training for staff and patient transport case review.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the care and transport needs of patients and develop comprehensive plans to manage care delivery across the patient transport care continuum. Evaluate daily staffing and processes for the interfacility transport department. When needed, administers medical care while working within the confines of the ground ambulance and regional facilities. Assists with covering transport staffing as needed. Assists, when needed, other departments during times of high census with aspects of patient care. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient responses to treatments and interventions from EMT's and Paramedics through established Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement (QAQI) processes. Actively participates in administrative decisions affecting patient care and transport. Assists the Medical Director with advanced skills check-off for the transport team members. Reviews transport processes, Quality Assurance Quality Improvement, and reports Work Action Plans and quality results during monthly meetings/interfacility transport department meetings. Reviews transport charts and reports transport numbers weekly to administration. Coordinates and extends outreach education to other facilities in the community regarding the Baptist Health Care interfacility transport department. Writes and maintains policies and protocols for the interfacility transport department. Promote a multidisciplinary coordination of services with the interfacility transport division, such as nursing, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmaceutical and public relations. Is responsible for staff coverage and problem resolution within the interfacility transport department. Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission. Is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards. Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards. Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources. Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff. Qualifications
Minimum Education Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required or Associates Degree Nursing Required or Associates Degree Related field, Health Care, EMS Required and Bachelor's Degree Business, Nursing, Related field, Health Care, Within three (3) years of employment Preferred Minimum Work Experience 5 years experience as a Paramedic, preferably in a 911 system, critical care transport setting or hospital emergency room. Required or 5 years experience as a registered nurse in emergency department or critical care setting Required and 3 years management experience, preferably equivalent to that of Director of Ambulance Transport, EMS Manager/Director or EMS Chief. Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required or Paramedic Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required and BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 90 Days Required and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS_ARC) within 90 Days Required Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Minimum 16 hour course within 90 Days Required Critical Care Paramedic Certification (CCP_IBSC) State of Florida Upon Hire Preferred Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Strong understanding of emergency management services protocols, regulations, and best practices. Exceptional communication skills, strong interpersonal and management skills, leadership, and analytical abilities. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to emergency management services, interfacility transport, and patient care. Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other departments and/or facilities. Ability to utilize emergency management services software and technology. Independent problem solving, decision making, and negotiation skills. Knowledge of special equipment and processes for assessment, planning, and evaluating the care needs of the patient in the immediate transport period.
