Job Description:\n\n WOOSTER COMMUNITY HOSPITAL JOB DESCRIPTION Director, Information Technology MAIN FUNCTION: The Director, Information Technology provides strategic and operational leadership for the hospital’s technology infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing systems that support the clinical, operational, and business needs of the organization. The Director oversees all technology infrastructure domains including networking (LAN/WAN/Wireless), server and storage environments, end-user computing, telecommunications, and cybersecurity infrastructure. The Director is responsible for developing and executing technology strategies that align with organizational priorities, ensuring that systems are stable, scalable, and compliant with healthcare regulations and best practices. This position leads and mentors technical teams responsible for network, server, desktop, telecommunications, and help desk services, fostering a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Director oversees both day-to-day technology operations and long-term planning for infrastructure modernization, disaster recovery, and security initiatives. This includes forecasting and managing technology budgets, vendor relationships, and capital investments related to infrastructure and technical services. The Director collaborates closely with the CIO and Director of Information Systems to ensure tight integration between the organization’s applications and the underlying technology environment. In conjunction with the Chief Information Officer and other IS leadership, the Director participates in departmental and organizational goal setting, strategic planning, and policy development. The Director ensures that all technology services are delivered in a fiscally responsible, customer-focused, and compliant manner, while maintaining effective communication with hospital leadership, staff, physicians, and external partners in alignment with Wooster Community Hospital’s mission and service standards. RESPONSIBLE TO: Vice President, Information Systems, CIO MUSE HAVE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in information technology infrastructure, networking, and systems administration.Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management capacity overseeing IT operations, technical teams, or infrastructure projects - preferably within a healthcare or similarly regulated environment.Demonstrated experience managing enterprise networks, server environments, storage systems, and telecommunications across complex, multi-site organizations.Hands-on expertise with VMware virtualization technologies (server and desktop), WAN systems, and network segmentation (including VMware NSX or similar).Proven ability to manage wired and wireless network infrastructure, data backup and recovery processes, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning.Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including regulatory requirements such as HIPAA Security Rule, HITECH, and best practices for safeguarding PHI.Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets, vendor relationships, and technology projects in alignment with organizational strategy.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build effective relationships across clinical, operational, and technical teams.Commitment to customer service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.No written disciplinary action within the past 12 months. Operations/Specific Duties include, but are not limited to:Provide leadership and direction for all technology infrastructure functions, including networking (LAN/WAN/Wireless), servers, storage, end-user computing, telecommunications, cybersecurity infrastructure, and help desk operations.Develop, implement, and maintain infrastructure policies, procedures, standards, and associated training plans that support operational excellence, security, and compliance.Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of all infrastructure systems, including network and server environments, wireless systems, and telecommunication systems for existing, renovated, and new construction projects.Lead the development and execution of short- and long-term strategic plans for infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, business continuity, and disaster recovery.Direct and mentor technical staff across infrastructure, network, server, and support teams - setting priorities, establishing goals, evaluating performance, and fostering professional growth and accountability.Ensure consistent monitoring, documentation, and reporting of system performance, capacity, and security status; promote proactive identification and resolution of issues.Oversee incident management, escalation, and resolution for infrastructure-related issues to ensure service reliability and customer satisfaction.Manage vendor and service provider relationships for infrastructure, telecommunications, and managed services, ensuring performance, compliance, and value.Collaborate with the CIO, Director of Information Systems, and other hospital leaders to align technology operations with clinical, administrative, and financial needs.Maintain an excellent and collaborative working relationship with the Director of Information Systems to ensure an effective, efficient, and high-performing Information Systems department. Together, they will foster teamwork, alignment, and shared accountability for departmental goals and organizational success.Develop, recommend, and manage departmental operating and capital budgets; ensure fiscal accountability, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with organizational priorities.Maintain an accurate and current inventory of network and technology assets; oversee lifecycle management, procurement, and replacement planning.Ensure systems documentation, run books, and procedures are current and accessible to relevant staff.Maintain compliance with cybersecurity and privacy regulations (HIPAA, HITECH) and implement recommendations from security risk assessments.Establish goals and metrics for system uptime, performance, and service delivery; track and report results to leadership.Promote effective communication within the department and across the organization to ensure alignment with hospital mission, vision, and service standards.Represent Information Technology in organization-wide planning, governance, and quality improvement initiatives.Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.
