Manages and responds to investigations, reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; reviews recommendations and/ or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health, and environmental risks. Recommends corrective actions where necessary.
Charged with creating safety policies and making procedural changes to achieve required deliverables.
Conducts/coordinates safety inspections, managing follow-up to assure proper close out of any observations.
Conducts ergonomic workplace assessments and evaluation of work stations. Works in conjunction with Human Resources to make appropriate accommodations.
Collaborates with Human Resources to develop and implement employee injury prevention strategies and programs.
Training Conducts related training and educational programs, including program training for employees to ensure employee safety, including but not limited to Bloodborne Pathogens, Lockout/Tagout, FEMA, Emergency Response, Crisis Management, and other training as required or requested for faculty and staff.
Ensures that designated employees of Security, Safety and Facilities are certified in CPR, AED and First Aid
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight Ensures College wide compliance in meeting regulatory requirements (e g, hazard communication plan, laboratory chemical hygiene, plans for management of blood-borne pathogen hazards, emergency action plans, fire prevention and protection plans, etc.)
Assists academic and support units in meeting regulations and requirements of plans.
Works with the facilities department to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental health and safety standards, regulations, and codes through development and implementation of on-site inspection and monitoring programs of College facilities and operations for fire safety, fire extinguishers and fire alarms, contractor compliance, and chemical, physical and biological hazards
Maintains records on accidents, hazardous materials, training, fire safety inspections, and other documentation as required by local, state, and federal authorities
Serves on designated committees and advisory boards to maintain open communications with faculty, staff, and other constituent groups.
Provides technical information to employees and management concerning Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements, as well as safety policies, procedures, and rules.
Related Duties: Responsible for the development and adherence to the department’s annual budget. Oversees the monitoring of expenditures and implements adjustments as necessary.
Work with contractors and suppliers in securing prices, services and materials per College policy.
Communicate on a regular basis with facilities and Public Safety personnel and College administration as it relates to health, safety and security.
Assist in review of architect/engineer drawings and specifications for proposed alteration, renovation and construction of campus buildings and facilities, specifically safety requirements.
Performs other duties as directed by supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management or related field and five years’ experience leading an environmental and occupational safety program, preferably in a higher education setting.
Experience in Emergency Management preferred.
Certified Safety Personnel ( CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification desired.
Professional Emergency Manager (PEM) Certification, or ability to obtain this certification, preferred.
Working knowledge of applicable regulations and standards ( OSHA, EPA, NFPA, MSDS, IBC, DOT).
Ability to develop, implement and enforce safety programs and protocols.
Ability to multi-task effectively and respond to demands in a timely manner. Strong human relations, communications and computer skills.
Additional Requirements: Must be able to pass hazmat physical examination in order to qualify the individual for emergency response involving all levels of respiratory protection.
Requires the use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials
Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, walk and stand for long periods of time, walk on uneven surfaces, be able to work above and below ground level, work in cramped or confined spaces and work outside in various environmental conditions which include but are not limited to cold temperatures, hot temperatures, windy conditions and inclement weather Preferred Qualifications: Posting Date: Closing Date: Open Until Filled Yes
