Job Summary
The Director, Email leads the Society’s email and SMS program, including responsibility for development and implementation of channel strategies, end-to-end campaign execution, and performance management. The director collaborates with stakeholders Society-wide, leads an internal team, and manages agency relationship(s) to deliver high-impact and integrated campaigns that are aligned to organizational objectives and achieve program goals. This position demands strategic thinking, leadership, and expertise building best-in-class email and SMS programs that increase audience engagement and revenue generation.
Main Responsibilities
Serve as the Society’s email and SMS program subject matter expert
Develop and implement comprehensive, integrated, and audience-centric email and SMS marketing strategies aligned with Society objectives, with a strong focus on audience retention and activation
Define measures of success and use data and analytics tools to lead monitoring, track performance, and oversee reporting of campaigns and KPIs
Lead the planning, execution, and optimization of email and SMS campaigns designed to advance the Society’s goals, with oversight responsibilities including channel-specific content strategy and development, integration with multi-channel marketing plans, personalization, production, QA, segmentation, templates, and testing
Manage creation and execution of the email and SMS marketing program calendar, which prioritizes relevance and frequency to prevent message fatigue
Ensure all email and SMS campaigns have consistency of brand, voice, and messaging, follow the Society’s brand, language, and style guide, and comply with relevant regulations and best practices, such as CAN-SPAM and GDPR
Work collaboratively with other teams to ensure our storytelling, impact narratives, and calls-to-action are audience-centric and conversion-optimized
Partner with interdepartmental, cross-functional, and external agency stakeholders to align email and SMS program with acquisition and conversion strategies as well as operational plans and multi-channel marketing plans
Use data-driven insights to optimize strategies, plans, tactics, and outcomes on an ongoing basis and in real-time to make mid-campaign adjustments to maximize impact
Partner closely with interdepartmental teams and cross functional stakeholders
Manage email marketing budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources
Manage day-to-day agency relationship(s) and oversee execution and performance of agency campaigns
Manage email testing, validation, and inbox placement, including use of vendor solutions
Provide regular report-outs to marcomms leadership on channel performance and present to other Society leaders as needed to help inform decision-making
Manage and mentor the email team by providing guidance, feedback, and support as well as lead professional development and performance management for all team members
What We're Looking For
6+ years of recent experience leading and growing multi-million-dollar email and SMS programs, including leadership roles with responsibility for managing internal teams, external agencies, and vendor budgets
Deep understanding of email and SMS marketing and expertise leading development, execution, and optimization of email and SMS strategies that support integrated, multi-channel plans and campaigns
Ability to track performance, analyze email and SMS performance data, identify areas for improvement, and put insights into action
Ability to anticipate, identify, and solve problems related to campaign performance and deliverability
Ongoing learning of the latest trends with the ability to adapt strategies accordingly
Strong strategic thinking, planning, and program management skills with an ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Experience building and mentoring a team of email and SMS professionals
Technological Skills
Experience with email marketing platforms, CRM systems, and marketing automation tools such as Marketing Cloud, HubSpot, and Marketing Cloud Personalization
Experience with tools for project management, scheduling, analytics, and content creation, particularly Asana and Google Analytics

Work is primarily performed remotely, however, when possible and necessary, teams meet in person to conduct the business of the organization and build team relationships.
Compensation | Benefits:
The estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $90,000-$110,000 . Final offers will be based on the candidate'sgeographic location, consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
