Overview Director, Development Research (Job ID: 2025-3703) joins Brookings, a leading think tank conducting in-depth research to solve problems facing society at local, national, and global levels. The Office of Development manages fundraising across the institution, focusing on donor relations and strategic fundraising to support the scholars’ work. Location: This position is hybrid (regular in-office presence in Washington, DC with at least two days of remote work each week). Reports to the Senior Director of Development Services. Responsibilities Lead the Development Research team, supervising three researchers (Associate Director, Assistant Director, Development Research Manager). Set strategy for the Development Research team in coordination with frontline fundraisers and the Senior Director of Development Services. Remain informed of industry standards and trends to produce cutting-edge prospect research; develop and review policies and training materials for best practices. Oversee donor due diligence processes in collaboration with the Managing Director of Development Services and Office of General Counsel. Establish and monitor strategic goals for the research operation, including annual quantitative and qualitative targets for the program, team, and individuals; develop short- and long-term goals for prospect identification and wealth review programs; mentor staff and evaluate performance against metrics and benchmarks. Design and implement departmental policies, serve as a resource for prospect information and wealth analysis, and stay engaged with the fundraising community to maintain best practices. Foster a values-based leadership culture that promotes belonging, inclusivity, and collaboration. Development Research Team Leadership and Strategy (50%) Manage the Development Research leadership team and set strategy in collaboration with frontline fundraisers and the Senior Director of Development Services. Maintain awareness of industry standards and trends to produce cutting-edge prospect research. Set and review strategic goals and policies; ensure timely, accurate research data and intake/tracking processes. Prospect Identification and Research (50%) Develop research profiles and prospect lists; assess philanthropic capacity, pathways, networks, and interests in partnership with fundraisers. Compile and analyze biographical, wealth, and philanthropic information to identify new prospects for Brookings donor groups and programs. Research and assign capacity ratings to suspects, prospects, and donors; keep ratings updated. Coordinate with fundraisers to meet portfolio revenue goals; organize regular meetings to move prospects through the pipeline. Ensure accurate prospect research data entry into Raiser’s Edge NXT in a timely fashion. Qualifications Education/Experience
