Airbyte is the open-source standard for Data Movement. We enable data teams to move data from applications, APIs, unstructured sources, and databases to data warehouses, lakes, AI applications and LLMs. With our approach we are finally solving the need for extensibility and control that every company needs with data.
So far, our customers, users, and ourselves have built over 15,000 connectors and have had 200,000+ companies install Airbyte. We've raised $181M from the world's top investors (Benchmark, Accel, Altimeter, Coatue, Y Combinator, etc.) and we believe in product-led growth, where we build something awesome that all our users love.
We’re committed to providing as much context to our current employees and candidates. The Airbytecompany handbook is open to all.
If you find this role exciting, we encourage you to apply even if you think you don’t meet all requirements.
We’re looking for a Open-Source Strategy Lead who lives and breathes data engineering – pipelines, connectors, ingestion at scale, and making ELT workflows just work. At Airbyte, we’re building the open-source standard for data movement. In this role, you’ll create hands-on technical content, engage deeply with the engineering community, and help practitioners see how Airbyte fits into their modern stack. From batch to real-time, self-managed to hybrid cloud.
This is a highly visible, high-impact role. You’ll work across product, engineering, growth and community to drive adoption and shape the experience of thousands of data engineers moving mission-critical data every day.
What You'll Do
Content Creation
Build tutorials, sample repos, walkthrough videos, blog posts, and live sessions showing how to use Airbyte in real-world pipelines (e.g., syncing Salesforce to Snowflake, Change Data Capture into Iceberg, etc.)
Develop resources tailored to the daily work of data engineers: troubleshooting sync failures, managing schema drift, scaling connectors, etc.
Cover both self-hosted and cloud-native workflows, including Airbyte Cloud and orchestration with tools like Airflow, Dagster, and dbt.
Community Engagement
Represent Airbyte across GitHub, Slack, Reddit, Stack Overflow, and more. Responding to questions, offering guidance, and spotlighting great community contributions.
Help reduce time-to-value for new users by sharing patterns, recipes, and config examples that work.
Capture feedback from data engineers in the field and bring those insights back to our product and docs teams.
If the following job requirements and experience match your skills, please ensure you apply promptly.
Technical Enablement
Build and maintain demo pipelines and open-source starter kits showing how Airbyte integrates with core parts of the modern data stack: cloud data warehouses, lakehouses, pub/sub systems, and orchestration tools.
Contribute code, docs, or utilities to the Airbyte OSS repo as needed to help improve the developer experience.
Partner with Solutions Engineering and Support to scale enablement materials for technical onboarding.
Speak at data meetups, conferences, and webinars about lessons learned in building reliable, scalable data pipelines.
Share best practices and operational playbooks around connector development, ELT architectures, and hybrid deployments.
Support partner integrations with vendors across the data ecosystem (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, dbt, etc.)
What You'll Need 5+ years in developer advocacy, data engineering, or related roles with strong technical and skills
Proficiency in Python and modern data tools (Airflow, dbt, Spark, SQL-based warehouses, etc.)
Demonstrated experience creating high-quality technical content: blog posts, code repos, YouTube tutorials, etc.
Strong grasp of data movement patterns: batch vs streaming, change data capture (CDC), schema evolution
Clear communicator with public speaking experience and a passion for making engineers’ lives easier
Track record of engaging in technical communities (open-source contributions, forum participation, etc.)
You share our values
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building or maintaining open-source connectors
Familiarity with GenAI/ML use cases involving unstructured data, RAG, and agent-based pipelines.
Track record of contributing to data ecosystem projects such as DBT or Apache Iceberg.
Understanding of data governance, observability, and pipeline reliability at scale
Comfort with hybrid architectures, cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), and containerized deployments.
Familiarity with Airbyte or competing tools

Why are you being asked to complete this form?
We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.
Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp .
