JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Corporate Membership & Global Outreach works cross-functionally with other ACC staff to recruit and retain corporate members and build engagement with Chief Legal Officers from large corporations with the purpose of gaining their commitment to ACC’s value proposition and enhancing their participation in ACC educational and networking events.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the key legal and business issues that affect large corporate law departments and have the ability to convert relationships with CLOs into strategic partnerships and opportunities to grow ACC’s membership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Increase Corporate Membership by developing and implementing effective recruitment and retention strategies. In conjunction with the Membership and Legal Management teams, maintains updated a target list with profiles of large legal departments to recruit for corporate membership. Reports monthly on results.
Work with ACC staff and volunteers to build relationships with large corporate law departments and their CLOs to promote ACC membership. Delivers sales presentations to prospective legal departments to understand their needs and build connections with ACC’s membership benefits.
Engage with current corporate members and other key stakeholders to prompt thought leadership, collect feedback, and identify opportunities to enhance both ACC’s profile and membership value.
Identify key influencers and “ACC champions” within the largest Corporate Members and maintain regular contact with these departments.
Attend and serve as a speaker or panel member at legal educational events to develop relationships with key individuals who can assist with ACC’s ability to grow and serve its members around the globe.
Identify potential topics and recruit high-quality faculty, including speakers from large corporate law departments and CLOs for ACC programs as requested. Provide guidance and feedback to the Education team to ensure there are programs that drive attendance of and are relevant to CLOs and corporate members.
Submit for approval to the VP & Chief Global Membership Officer, annual goals for the Corporate Membership team which include the establishment and review of appropriate metrics through which to assess progress toward achievement of the stated goals.
Acts as a liaison and “good will” ambassador of ACC with the corporate legal community through development of relationships with ACC members, prospective members, and other bar/professional associations (particularly networks that serve diverse attorneys and in-house counsel).
Collaborate with local ACC Chapters to expand local CLO networks in key markets and collaborate with Director of CLO Engagement to execute strategic CLO Initiatives impacting corporate legal departments.
EDUCATION
Position requires a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Business Development, Business Management or other related concentration. A Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to a bar is preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 10 years’ experience is required, including five or more years practicing law, or working in an in-house law department. Prior experience working with and/or communicating to large corporate legal departments and general counsel/CLOs is required.
COMPETENCIES (KSA s)
Knowledge of In-house Counsel and Legal Industry : Significant familiarity with the in-house counsel role and corporate legal departments and the challenges and opportunities they are experiencing. Able to distill complex legal and business information and package the information in a succinct, interesting, and meaningful manner drawing connections to ACC’s programs, resources, and services.
Communication Skills: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to build rapport and engage with members and other stakeholders, in particular CLOs of large corporate law departments and the ACC Board.
Membership Development : Experience in developing and implementing membership growth and retention strategies and committed to enhancing ACC’s value proposition for corporate members. Skilled at analyzing membership trends, feedback, and engagement data to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
Leadership and Management Skills : Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team effectively, including setting goals, providing feedback, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Cross-functional Teamwork : Proven experience working across functions in an effective manner by creating win-win opportunities and meeting organizational goals.
Business Acumen : Demonstrated experience with managing budgets, adapting strategies to changing market dynamics, and leveraging work relationships to deliver results.
Technology Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience using a CRM to produce reports, analyze data, and make informed decisions.
Problem-Solving : Skilled at resolving workplace issues in a timely and effective manner. Can be relied upon to exercise good judgment when seeking input from senior staff and when presenting to corporate legal departments, CLO’s, executives, ACC staff, or members.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
One direct report: Manager of Corporate Membership.
LANGUAGES
ACC seeks to hire multi-lingual candidates. Fluency in English is required, and a second language is preferred.
TRAVEL
6-12 times a year.
SALARY RANGE
$165,000 to $190,000 - When determining a salary offer, consideration is given to candidates that possess minimum requirements and preferred qualifications.

The flexibility of a hybrid schedule (only two days in the office on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) and remaining days you can work from home. Staff working in the Washington, DC office must reside in the DMV area.
