Job Summary Oberlin College & Conservatory is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join Oberlin’s Center for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Innovation and Leadership as a Director. This is a full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position, reporting to the Executive Director of the Center. The position will be based in Oberlin, Ohio. Job Summary: The Oberlin Center for DEI Innovation & Leadership aims to elevate and amplify a community of students, leaders, and changemakers who wish to advance and inform diversity, equity, and inclusion thinking and practice with excellence. Launched in June of 2024, the Center brings together academic and research opportunities, co-curricular experiences, career programming, mentorship programs, community building, and civic engagement.The Director will collaborate with the Executive Director of the Center and other campus and community leaders to develop and implement the Center’s strategy and goals. Additionally, the Director will take a leadership role in elevating and advancing Oberlin’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across the campus ecosystem. The Director will provide thought leadership and support for the creation, execution, and management of the Center’s key programs and initiatives. The Director will manage the administrative processes for the Center’s new Undergraduate Fellows program beginning in the Fall of 2025. This program will focus on juniors who are interested in pursuing careers that seek to address the fundamental inequities that manifest themselves racially. These issues range from the criminal justice system, to housing, healthcare, income inequality, and beyond. The program will be a cohort model and will include undergraduates doing coursework and then connecting this work with a high quality internship or experiential opportunity (provided through the ). The Undergraduate Fellows Program would be enhanced by an orientation program, key workshops, and guest lectures. Responsibilities Program Management
Develop and coordinate the implementation of an annual recruitment plan for participants and approve all program participants.
Manages recruitment, applications, administration and review processes of student awards and scholarships, advising, and retention of Fellows.
This includes managing/participating in interviews, on-boarding processes, and regular meetings with student participants, documenting overall progress.
Collaborate with campus and community partners to identify new internship opportunities that align with student interests and key academic programs.
Serve as liaison with faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to promote the program and to garner their support and participation; coordinate the recruitment of faculty to serve as research mentors for participation in the program.
Prepares internal and external reports needed for program assessment. Compile data, write, and submit annual reports documenting program outcomes and accomplishments.
DEI Strategy & Center Leadership
In collaboration with the Executive Director, co-lead efforts to advance DEI efforts across the Oberlin DEI ecosystem and in the broader community.
Collaborate with the Executive Director in partnering with the DEI Professionals Network, Equity and Diversity Committee, and other faculty and staff to implement the college’s DEI strategic plan.
Co-develop DEI communications and collateral for internal and external audiences
Collaborate with the Executive Director to set annual departmental goals and plans
Supervise, train, and develop direct reports
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other campus leaders, academic departments, and key stakeholders.
Provide leadership within the Center and lead the Center operations in the absence of the Executive Director.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the Executive Director.
Essential Job Functions Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications Master’s degree or PhD degree (preferred) in a relevant field.
A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in diversity, equity and inclusion, plus two years of supervisory experience, preferably in higher education settings.
Ability to understand best practices for advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, including racial equity, and in providing culturally mindful and culturally relevant education.
Strong project management skills and the ability to implement strategic initiatives.
Experience with assessment, design, and implementation of programmatic and organization-wide change efforts.
Experience with data (quantitative and qualitative) analysis and assessment.
Experience working with diverse student populations and commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Engage in transparent and effective communication both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrate effective writing skills in the development of reports, documents, resources, and presentations.
Develop, implement, and evaluate plans, programs, policies and processes.
Demonstrate conflict resolution strategies.
Complete job tasks with minimal no or low supervision.
