The Team

Alvarez & Marsal’s Financial Services Industry group partners with financial services firms and private investors to drive results, create value and unlock business opportunities at every stage of their growth strategies. Through deals, disruption, and distress solutions, we join forces with clients to catalyze growth and profitability, navigate the complex industry challenges, and harness rapid technological changes that drive market advantage.

We provide end-to-end portfolio and M&A services; deliver innovation, revenue growth and efficiency through business transformation; and execute rapid solutions to turn around businesses. Clients can expect bottom line results through action-oriented leadership and success-aligned fee arrangements, delivered by our global team of turnaround experts, industry operators, digital leaders, and regulatory specialists.

How You Will Contribute

You are a seasoned strategy consultant with a strong foundation in Financial Services and a reputation for delivering results. Trusted by senior executives to navigate disruption, you bring structure to ambiguity, clarity to complexity, and action to strategy. You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and are excited by the opportunity to lead transformation across Capital Markets and Financial Markets Infrastructure. You’re ready for a high-impact role where you’ll work closely with C-level clients and internal leaders to drive growth, operational improvement, and innovation.

This is a hybrid, in-office role based in New York or Boston.

The work

  • Lead engagements end-to-end, overseeing planning, execution, and delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Manage client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and ensuring alignment of project delivery with client expectations and strategic goals.
  • Drive strategic problem-solving, synthesizing data and insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Present findings and value-driven insights to senior client stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
  • Support business development, including proposal development, client pitches, and identifying new whitespace opportunities.
  • Shape client agendas, using your industry perspective and strategic acumen to influence outcomes.
  • Develop IP and thought leadership, staying ahead of industry shifts in fintech, AI, and digital innovation.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, providing hands-on coaching and helping cultivate a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Contribute to firm growth, by bringing new ideas, building capabilities, and expanding our footprint in the Financial Services sector.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in strategy consulting, preferably at a top-tier firm (MBB, Big 4 Strategy, or equivalent).
  • Deep expertise across Financial Services sectors, including:
    • Capital Markets
    • Financial Markets Infrastructure (e.g., exchanges, custodians, data providers)
  • Demonstrated leadership in one or more of the following domains:
    • Growth strategy & business model innovation
    • Cost transformation & operational performance
    • Deal strategy (due diligence, PMI, carve-outs, 100-day plans)
    • Pricing strategy & revenue optimization
    • Data, digital, and platform modernization
    • Emerging tech: AI, analytics, digital product strategy
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing teams and complex projects.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities, with strong storytelling and executive presence.
  • Analytical strength and comfort working through unstructured challenges and ambiguous data.
  • Highly proficient in PowerPoint and Excel, with the ability to translate insight into impact.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

We prioritize your well-being, providing benefits and resources to support you on your personal journey. The salary range is $150,000 - $200,000 annually, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
