Job Title: Director, Business & Legal Affairs About our team: We are a dynamic, diverse, and dedicated group of professionals passionate about music, providing general counseling to Warner Records across various business and legal issues. We value hard work, attentive listening, and a forward-thinking mindset. Our focus is on structuring the label’s business and legal relationships with our artists. Your role: You will learn the ins and outs of a record company and the recorded music industry while contributing to the creation and release of our artists’ music. You will be involved in all business and legal aspects of artist projects, from recording to marketing, adapting to industry changes and growing your skills as an attorney and executive. Key responsibilities include: Negotiating and drafting music and entertainment agreements, including recording, label, license, producer, mixer, soundtrack, termination/release, and merchandise agreements, along with related memos and summaries. Researching, advising, and supporting departments like A&R, marketing, video, commerce, promotion, royalties, and international regarding contractual and legal obligations. Collaborating with A&R administration on clearances, budgets, approvals, and counseling. Working with Finance on deal analyses. Reviewing artwork, label copy, videos, and other assets. Providing business and legal counseling and policy guidance on content distribution and business activities. Investigating and responding to claims and disputes, including copyright, audit, breach of contract, publicity, and trademark issues, in coordination with corporate legal. About you: You are passionate and knowledgeable about music. You hold a J.D. from a top law school and are in good standing with a state bar (preferably NY, CA, or GA). You have 3-5 years of post-bar experience in a major record label legal department, in-house legal team, law firm, or similar. You possess strong negotiating, drafting, organizational, and communication skills. You can work independently and in a team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities effectively. Preferred qualifications: Deep understanding of legal areas relevant to the music industry, such as copyright, trademark, and contracts. Strong business and financial acumen. Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000 annually. Actual salary depends on experience and business needs. Salaries are subject to change.
