Director, Business Development – Transactions
Amgen is dedicated to transforming patient lives through innovative therapies. We are seeking a Director of Business Development – Transactions to lead strategic deal analysis, negotiation, and execution across research to commercial assets.
What You Will Do
In this critical role, you will analyze and negotiate high‑value transactions, partner with cross‑functional leaders, and drive deal execution that fuels Amgen’s growth.
- Collaborate with Business Development and cross‑functional stakeholders to assess and advance transactions.
- Develop and recommend transaction structures, financial terms, and other key deal terms.
- Drive decision making and the transaction process.
- Create presentations for the Transaction Review Committee and senior leadership.
- Lead negotiations with potential partners.
- Work on deals of all sizes and stages, from early research to commercial assets, including licensing, collaboration, and M&A.
- Juggle multiple projects with varying deadlines.
- Interface with external parties including venture capitalists, executive management of target companies, peers in the industry, and investment banks.
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree and at least 4 years of Business Development transaction experience.
- OR Masters degree and at least 7 years of Business Development transaction experience.
- OR Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of Business Development transaction experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of transaction experience with a track record of completing complex or value‑creating deals.
- At least 5 years in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Experience managing time‑intensive situations.
- MBA and/or JD highly desired.
- A combination of scientific and business education or experience could be quite helpful.

- Excellent project management skills; projects are complex and involve many functions.
- Strong executive communication skills (written and oral) and frequent interaction with broad and diverse groups.
- Strong negotiation experience with problem‑solving capabilities.
- Good business instincts with financial acumen.
- Solid understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry and key functions.
- Passion for supporting data‑driven decisions or walking away.
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, drive business decisions, and manage multiple projects.
- Managerial skills are critical.
