You will lead efforts to evaluate and help execute strategic business development deals that align with GSK’s R&D priorities, working closely with cross-functional teams to advance our pipeline and deliver value to patients.
We are looking for someone who is collaborative, strategic, and passionate about making a difference. This senior role supports early and late-stage global business development and licensing initiatives and has a direct impact on the success of the Respiratory, Inflammation and Immunology strategy and portfolio. The Search and Evaluation (S&E) group proactively scouts external innovation to strengthen GSK’s medicines portfolio. The role involves assembling teams of internal subject matter experts, conducting technical evaluation and due diligence, and bringing forward business cases to internal governance bodies to secure endorsement. You will synthesize and communicate the merits of potential investment opportunities to enable enterprise decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Synthesize varied information (clinical data, competitive landscape, market and investment trends) to formulate business cases delivering substantial enterprise value to GSK.
Engage across disciplines and drive constructive challenge among senior stakeholders to ensure the best outcomes for GSK.
Act with urgency and an entrepreneurial attitude in driving the deal process to go/no-go decisions.
Engage with the life science investment and biotech community, alongside senior GSK executives, to represent strategic initiatives and build relationships for deal flow.
Establish and lead initial technical evaluation and formal diligence processes to assess assets and deliver clear recommendations to governance bodies and senior leadership.
Serve as the primary point of contact with external partners throughout the deal process, from submission and negotiation of non-binding term sheets through to deal execution.
Collaborate with the Transactional lead during term sheet and definitive agreement negotiations.
Prepare and present business cases and briefing materials for senior management and governance bodies with cross-functional support.
Work with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication and timely decision-making to support transactions.
Establish and maintain a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, ensuring GSK remains a partner of choice for the biotech community.
Stay informed on industry trends and competitor datasets relevant to GSK’s strategic focus.
Basic Qualifications
Advanced degree in the life sciences (e.g., MS, PhD, PharmD, MD).
5+ years in drug discovery or development with a focus on one or more of the respiratory, immunology, or inflammation therapeutic areas.
5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical business development with deal sheet submission.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or MD, preferably with post-doc or MBA experience, or equivalent.
5+ years of business development experience in a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Experience in pharmaceutical R&D with international experience across cultures and drug discovery/clinical environments.
Strong scientific reputation in drug discovery and development.
Ability to interact effectively with senior executive teams and lead with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Proven leadership, collaboration, and partnering skills with a track record of building successful internal/external relationships.
Critical and creative thinking with problem-solving abilities.
Ability to navigate a fast-paced, matrixed work environment and influence at senior levels.
Excellent communication skills.
Work Location This role is based in the United States or United Kingdom and offers a hybrid working model, combining on-site and remote work flexibility.
