A leading innovator in the financial services and digital commerce industry is seeking a Director of Business Development to drive enterprise merchant adoption of its cutting-edge digital wallet and online checkout solution. This senior sales leader will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the go-to-market strategy, leading a team of high-performing business development professionals, and cultivating strategic relationships with top-tier merchants across the U.S.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring proven expertise in merchant payments, eCommerce sales, and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep industry knowledge, a track record of success in acquiring enterprise clients, and experience working collaboratively with internal teams and external channel partners.
Key Responsibilities
Lead new business acquisition efforts targeting U.S. enterprise merchants for a digital payments platform.
Establish and grow executive-level relationships with senior stakeholders across payments, finance, marketing, and product functions.
Drive adoption of the company’s digital wallet and checkout solution by demonstrating value, aligning strategic goals, and successfully closing high-value deals.
Develop and manage a team of business development professionals, providing coaching, pipeline support, and leadership to ensure consistent team performance and goal achievement.
Act as a liaison across cross-functional departments including product, marketing, integration, and customer success to deliver a customer-centric sales experience.
Collaborate with channel partners, acquirers, and fintech providers to develop joint sales strategies and optimize partner-led go-to-market execution.
Oversee opportunity management through CRM systems with accurate tracking of communication, pipeline stages, forecasting, and follow-up activities.
Represent the organization at industry conferences, customer meetings, and forums to raise market visibility and expand the prospective client base.
Serve as a conduit for voice-of-customer insights, providing input into product roadmaps and strategic planning based on real-time market feedback.
Lead sales process improvement initiatives including reporting, tools, sales enablement, and resource development.
Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and successful onboarding by working in close partnership with customer integration and relationship teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field.
10+ years of consultative, strategic sales experience within the eCommerce, payments, fintech, or digital wallet space.
At least 5 years of experience managing and developing high-performing sales teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Proven history of success in selling innovative payment technologies or enterprise software to large merchants and commerce platforms.
Strong experience navigating complex sales cycles with C-level stakeholders and driving results through influence and negotiation.
Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed quotas in dynamic, emerging markets.
Proficient in sales planning, forecasting, and CRM usage (Salesforce preferred).
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
Willingness to travel up to 50% as needed.
Preferred Experience
Advanced degree or additional training in business or technology.
Previous experience working in a matrixed organization with cross-functional team collaboration.
Prior success leading sales teams in the fintech, eCommerce, or mobile payment space at a high-growth company.
Experience optimizing sales processes and tools to support scalable team performance.
