Site Name: USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence, UK - Hertfordshire - Stevenage Posted Date: Jun 20 2025 Job Title: Director, Automation Platforms, RTech Automation UK or US, DAPS Job Overview: GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is seeking an experienced Automation Platforms Director to join our RTech Automation team within Data Automation & Predictive Sciences (DAPS) in our Research Technologies (RTech) division. The role involves leading a team responsible for managing automation platforms critical to our research operations, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and driving automation strategy to enhance operational efficiency and research capabilities. Key Responsibilities: Lead a team of automation engineers, application specialists, and IT specialists. Manage and optimize automation platforms, ensuring performance, availability, and interoperability. Develop and implement strategic vision for automation within RTech. Collaborate with research, IT, and engineering teams to apply automation to scientific initiatives. Ensure platform reliability, security, and compliance with safety standards. Monitor performance, implement improvements, and maintain documentation. Mentor team members and foster a culture of innovation. Stay updated on emerging automation technologies and trends. Establish relationships with vendors and external partners. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or related field; advanced degree preferred. At least 12 years of experience in automation, with 7+ years in leadership roles. Proven experience managing research or laboratory automation platforms. Knowledge of robotics, high-throughput screening, and data systems. Experience with system integration, APIs, and data exchange protocols. Strong project management and leadership skills. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of safety standards in pharmaceutical research. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with LIMS, ELNs, programming languages, and cloud platforms. Strong data analysis and visualization skills. Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
