Position Summary The Director, Appraisals & Valuations is responsible for the strategic leadership and execution of Anchor Loans’ property valuation operations, encompassing Third-Party Appraisal Review, Internal Desktop Valuations, and Value Reconciliation. This individual will lead a team of analysts and managers, ensuring that valuation standards, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies align with company objectives. As the senior-most authority in this space, the Director will partner closely with Credit, Underwriting, Risk, and other stakeholders to ensure valuation workflows support business goals while maintaining high accuracy and integrity. The role requires deep subject matter expertise in real estate valuation, advanced leadership capabilities, and a strong track record of building scalable processes in a high-volume environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Set the vision and strategic direction for the appraisals and valuations function, aligning team goals with company performance metrics and risk frameworks. Develop and continuously refine policies, SOPs, and quality standards to meet evolving business, investor, and regulatory requirements. Monitor market and regulatory changes to ensure timely adjustments to internal practices and tools. Team Management & Development Lead, coach, and manage a team of managers and analysts across valuations and appraisal review functions. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement through training, mentorship, and professional development. Conduct workforce planning to ensure team capacity and capability meet growing business needs. Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, and performance management for the function. Operational Oversight Oversee the execution of third-party appraisal reviews, ensuring appraisals meet USPAP standards and internal quality thresholds. Drive the accuracy and consistency of internal desktop valuations by implementing robust review processes and leveraging data and analytics tools. Lead resolution of complex or high-risk valuation discrepancies and escalations. Technology & Process Optimization Partner with Product and Engineering to enhance proprietary valuation systems and automate key workflows. Use data insights and KPI dashboards to optimize cycle time, valuation accuracy, and risk exposure. Evaluate third-party vendors and data providers for performance and alignment with Anchor’s valuation objectives. Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a key liaison to executive leadership and department heads across Credit, Risk, Underwriting, and Legal to ensure valuation practices align with broader business strategy. Collaborate with Compliance to ensure audit readiness and adherence to all appraisal-related regulatory guidelines. Present department performance updates and key risk indicators to leadership. Risk Management & Compliance Ensure appraisal and valuation decisions are defensible, well-documented, and aligned with market standards and investor guidelines. Mitigate operational and reputational risk through consistent audit trails and proactive exception handling. Maintain awareness of regulatory developments impacting valuation and appraisal functions (e.g., FIRREA, USPAP). Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Valuation Accuracy and Consistency Regulatory Compliance and Audit Readiness Cycle Time and Throughput Team Productivity and Retention Risk Event Reduction (valuation-related) Stakeholder Satisfaction Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum 7–10 years of experience in real estate valuation or appraisal, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role. Certified Residential Appraiser or General Appraiser License preferred (not required). Desired Skills & Qualifications Expert knowledge of real estate valuation methodologies, regulatory frameworks, and appraisal standards (USPAP, FIRREA, etc.) Proven ability to lead large and diverse teams in a fast-paced lending environment. Strong analytical and quantitative skills with ability to synthesize large data sets into actionable insights. Exceptional communication and collaboration skills across all levels of the organization. Proficiency in valuation software, appraisal review platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite. Compensation: The base pay range for this position is $130,000-$160,000 plus annual discretionary bonus based on performance of the individual and company. Work Environment This is a hybrid position based out of Anchor’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA, requiring in-office presence a minimum of 3 days per week and remote work flexibility for up to 2 days/week.
