Director and Chief Security Officer – World Bank Group

Location: Washington DC, United States

Sector: Multilateral Development Finance

Role: Director and CSO reporting to the Managing Director and WBG Chief Administrative Officer.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute a global security strategy that aligns with the WBG mission and anticipates emerging threats.
  • Serve as the principal security advisor to the WBG Executive Leadership, providing strategic insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Lead the Corporate Security Unit, overseeing operations, budget, and quality of service across the WBG.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with UN agencies, IFIs, government officials, and diplomatic missions to coordinate regional and global security initiatives.
  • Support the Crisis Management Framework and Incident Response Coordination for the WBG.

Selection Criteria

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in security management, public policy, risk management or related field; 15+ years of global security leadership in high‑threat environments.
  • Experience: Enterprise governance, crisis decision‑making, senior overseas security management; preferred multilateral or international corporate background.
  • Risk Management: Extensive experience leading global security operations; recognized expertise in global risk management and crisis leadership.
  • Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to analyze complex policy issues and deliver sound strategic advice; intellectual leadership across disciplines.
  • Project and Team Management: Track record of leading large, cross‑functional projects and multicultural teams.
  • Communication and Influence: Exceptional negotiation, influencing skills and strategic communication; ability to distill complex issues.
  • Financial and Organizational Acumen: Expertise in budget management, procurement, contract governance, internal controls.
  • Behavioral: Sense of urgency, thoughtful risk‑taking, empowerment and accountability.
