On behalf of our education client, Procom is searching for a Director Academic & Research Computing for a permanent role. This position is a remote position with the office located in Chicago, Illinois.
Director Academic & Research Computing - Job Description:
The Director, Academic & Research Computing is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of systems and technologies utilized by the University and Research communities. This role is pivotal in aligning IT operations with the university's mission, vision, and values, ensuring seamless integration and delivery of IT services.
Director Academic & Research Computing - Responsibilities:
• Manages large complex projects and programs.
• Coordinates team member and manager resources to meet strategic goals.
• Provides innovative solutions to complex issues integrating facility transformation with IT strategy.
• Supports and promotes technical or strategic direction to program team members and at the executive level.
• Builds positive relationships between program stakeholders.
• Manages project variances and proactively manages issues and risks.
• Contributes towards team member performance reviews.
• Seeks out customers to determine their needs and build relationships.
• Accountable for multiple project/program budgets.
• Manages application support staffing, including recruitment and evaluation.
• Manages cloud-based IT services through providers and contracts.
• Manages technical managers and team leads, driving strategy and organizational effectiveness.
• Manages vendor executives and implements new technologies.
• Assists in planning for strategic initiatives and resolves strategic project risks and issues.
• Implements desired business processes and coordinates management efforts.
• Engages in technical strategic planning and translates organizational structures to technical architecture.
Director Academic & Research Computing - Mandatory Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, healthcare, or related fields.
• Ten or more years of relevant progressive IT experience.
• 7+ years of leadership experience.
• Experience leading complex operational units of interdependent software applications.
• Proven track record in managing diverse IT environments and operations.
• Strong cultural change management skills.
• Ability to define and apply complex multi-dimensional technology solutions.
Director Academic & Research Computing – Nice-to-Have Skills:
• Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, healthcare, or related fields.
• Experience with technology coordination in university and research environments.
• Experience with higher education and research administration operations.
• Ability to inspire and mentor others.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
