Functions:
The Development Services Director provides leadership and strategic oversight for the Citys planning, permitting, building services, inspections, and code compliance functions. The Director ensures regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of excellent customer service, guiding development in a way that balances growth, safety, and preservation of community character.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct and manage all operations of the Development Services Department, including planning, permitting, building inspections, code compliance, and GIS.
Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability to staff, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
Recommend and implement policy, ordinance, and process improvements that enhance efficiency and transparency.
Serve as the primary liaison to the City Council, Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and other boards as needed.
Represent the City with developers, contractors, engineers, and citizens, ensuring professional, fair, and transparent communication.
Ensure consistent enforcement of zoning and building codes in alignment with state and federal regulations.
Develop and track performance metrics that measure departmental effectiveness.
Manage departmental budget and resources responsibly.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Training, Education and Experience:
Highschool diploma (or equivalent) and valid drivers license required.
Bachelors degree in planning, public administration, construction management, or related field.
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in planning, permitting, inspections, or development services.
Two or more years of supervisory or department management experience in a municipal or governmental setting.
ICC certifications, AICP certification, or other relevant professional credentials.
Experience with permitting software, GIS, or workflow tools.
