About This Role:
The deputy is a key member of the Communications and Engagement Office's leadership team responsible for elevating the county’s voice through engaging, consistent, and strategic communications.
In this role, you will:
Lead storytelling initiatives that highlight county priorities, services, and successes in ways that are accessible, meaningful, and motivating to diverse audiences.
Develop and implement communications strategies and content across platforms—print, digital, social, video, and more—to support county departments and enterprise priorities.
Supervise and mentor a team of communications professionals, ensuring high-quality work and alignment with best practices.
Provide strategic guidance to departments and leadership on public-facing messaging, branding, and engagement.
Use research, data, and feedback to refine messaging and continuously improve how we reach and resonate with the public.
Support the Communications and Engagement Director in managing priorities and representing the office across the organization.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and eight (8) years of experience in communications, journalism or public relations.
Preferences:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, public administration, or a related field.
At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, public engagement, or a related area.
At least two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
Proven ability to lead communication projects and develop messaging that informs, engages, and inspire
Experience working in or with local government or public sector organizations.
Proficiency in strategic communications methods and tools.
Ability to lead, coach and motivate cross-functional teams.
Skilled in digital communications tools, content planning, and inclusive outreach practice\
Experience writing speeches for executives.
Special Requirements:
Required to pass a criminal background and DMV records check.

Work Schedule:
Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours required to support events, meetings, or emergency communications
Starting Salary Range :
$118,696.50-$154,323.00
