Deputy Director, Business Development, Social Impact, Arlington, VA Social Impact (SI) is a Washington, DC-area international development management consulting firm. Position Description: SI is seeking a Deputy Director to join the Business Development Leadership team. This role involves supervising and supporting SI staff, managing business and strategy development functions, and participating in all phases of the business development process, including bid/no bid decisions, proposal management, and staffing. The ideal candidate has experience with complex proposals for US Government agencies like USAID, DoS, MCC, and other development entities, along with strong leadership and organizational management skills. The Deputy Director reports to the Vice President of Business Development. Responsibilities include: Strategic Leadership and Personnel Management: Lead strategic planning, support senior leadership, oversee a team of 3-5 staff, mentor team members, and manage workload and staffing. Capture and Pre-Positioning: Guide staff on capture management, identify new opportunities, serve as Capture Manager for key bids, and develop partner relationships. Proposal Management: Oversee proposal development, develop tools and guides, and review key proposals. Marketing: Build client relationships, attend networking events, and support marketing efforts. Information Management: Coordinate with program units, manage knowledge processes, and facilitate learning from proposals and client feedback. Qualifications: Master’s degree in international development or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in business development and proposal management. Strong knowledge of government and donor contracting practices. Excellent relationship-building, project management, and communication skills. Proficiency in a foreign language and sector-specific technical expertise are a plus. Leadership, interpersonal, entrepreneurial, and management skills required. Willingness to travel up to 25%.
