Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW: (Primary Purpose of Position)

The Deputy Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the operational and strategic leadership of the finance department which includes the accounting and finance, budgeting, property, revenue cycle, accounts payable departments. Develops and leads a high-performance team with the expectation of providing exceptional customer service and an entrepreneurial approach to financial matter.

SPAN OF CONTROL: Deputy Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for supervising 12 FTEs performingthe following functions: accounting, balance sheet and Income Statement analysis, budgeting, revenue cycle and governmental reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (List in order of importance to role and time spent on function)
  1. Responsible for the operational and strategic leadership of the finance department which includes the accounting and finance, budgeting, property, revenue cycle, accounts payable and other.
  2. Financial planning and analysis: Lead the annual budgeting process including revenue and capital, monthly financial forecasting and long-term financial planning.
  3. Provide in-depth analysis of budget vs. actual performance. Identifying key variances and offering actionable insights to senior leadership
  4. Develop, monitor, and report on financial KPIs to assess performance and identify risks and opportunities.
  5. Directs the day to day operations of the finance department
  6. Accountable for department decisions and performance by overseeing multiple managers who oversee the work of others.
  7. Ensures continued educations and development of finance personnel
  8. Assigns work and defines team goals and objectives.
  9. Communicates and works collaboratively with central office and local team members. Accessible, supportive and respectful to others.
  10. Leads the process to achieve financial benchmark performance.
  11. Responsible for the timely and accurate preparations and distribution of financial data and reports.
  12. Leads the PAC annual external independent audits, cost reports etc. In conjunction with corporate office finance team
  13. In conjunction with CFO, maintains and updates departmental policy/ processes for revenue cycle, A/P, payroll, PBJ, property, NYU affiliates reconciliations etc.
  14. Other assignments as required


Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline with an emphasis on accounting and financial systems; and four (4) years of responsible-level experience in fiscal management or administration with an emphasis on financial systems, management information and controls, three (3) years of which must have been in responsible administrative or managerial capacity; or

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in "1" above; and five (5) years of experience, as described in "1" above, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or managerial capacity.

Department Preferences

Must be a self-assured professional with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense and sound judgment.
8+ years of management experience in a health care setting (accounting/ finance), preferably in Long Term Care Facility.
Significant understanding of Long-Term Care revenue cycle and 3rd party reimbursements.
Strong communication skills, an engaging personal style, effective decision making, and the ability to present clear recommendations and timely advice to the CFO and stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint. Peoplesoft, epic, PCC
Must be knowledgeable in regulations/laws governing accounting and third-party reimbursement etc.
Knowledge of fundamentals of health care facility organization, administration and standards, regulations and laws applicable to health care facility operations;
knowledge of principals of business and human resources administration, management functions, and support services, and ability to direct and supervise personnel.
Ability to demonstrate creativity and discretion in planning and executing strategy.
