The Clinical Director of Mental Wellness at Prisma Community Care plays a pivotal dual-role in both direct clinical service delivery and organizational leadership within the mental wellness service line. This person is responsible for providing high-quality, culturally responsive psychotherapy and care coordination to clients while also overseeing the clinical operations, compliance, and quality assurance functions of the behavioral health team.
The Clinical Director of Mental Wellness carries a small personal caseload and delivers therapeutic services such as initial assessments, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and collaborative treatment planning. In parallel, this role leads and supervises a multidisciplinary team of licensed behavioral health professionals, ensuring services align with state regulations, ethical standards, and organizational protocols.
With a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, the Clinical Director of Mental Wellness drives innovation in care models, maintains compliance with HIPAA and CLAS standards, and fosters a culture of accountability, equity, and continuous improvement. This position also shares responsibility for strategic planning, staff development, performance evaluations, and patient access in a dyad leadership model.
The Clinical Director of Mental Wellness supports the Prisma Community Care mission of providing affirming and inclusive services to promote well-being and advance health equity for diverse communities and all those seeking compassionate care - especially people of color, 2SLGBTQIA+ and Queer individuals, and those affected by HIV.
What your day will look like at Prisma Community Care:
Clinical Responsibilities (20%)
- You will carry a small personal caseload and provide psychotherapy services including initial assessment, IOPs, and ongoing therapy.
- You will meet KPI expectations of 8 billable hours per week.
- You will create treatment plans, define and prioritze areas to be addressed, and work with clients to develop short- and long-term goals and strategies for achieving them.
- You will provide individual, family and/or group therapy for clients.
- You will provide crisis intervention as needed.
- You will collaborate and consult with other Prisma Community Care clinical and social services staff to help facilitate treatment and services.
Administrative/Clinical Supervision Responsibilities (80%)
- You will be responsible for clinical quality, compliance, and clinical staff leadership within mental wellness services.
- You will make programmatic and administrative recommendations to the Chief Clinical Program Officer in accordance with the organizational/program goals and objectives.
- You will lead the clinical team including therapists, and licensed mental health providers.
- You will engage, supervise, develop and direct staff by providing direction, input, and feedback.
- You will manage staff to ensure that they are following organizational policies and procedures.
- You will communicate and explain new directives, policies, or procedures to team members; for major changes, meet with entire behavioral health staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale.
- You will project a positive image of the organization to employees, patients, and the community.
- You will ensure Prisma behavioral health services and employed licensed professionals are operating compliantly with Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiner (AZBBHE) regulations, licensing standards, and discipline code of ethics.
- You will direct clinical quality, outcomes, scope of practice, clinical innovation, and patient care protocols.
- You will provide direct, face-to-face clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to licensed staff ensuring compliance with AZBBHE regulations.
- Submit required supervision reports to the AZBBHE and Program Manager within stipulated timelines.
- Identify, coordinate, and/or provide ongoing professional development opportunities appropriate to licensed behavioral health staff.
- You will prepare and continually review clinical practices and procedures manual.
- You will lead regular team meetings to ensure coordinated care management and collaboration with other Prisma Community Care clinical and social services staff.
- You will ensure that client records are managed in keeping with HIPPA standards.
- You will ensure that the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) are met.
Shared Administrative Responsibilities within dyad model:
- You will participate in the interview process and joint hiring decisions for clinical staff.
- You will provide clear, timely, and direct communication to staff on changes within the organization, protocols, and roles.
- You will co-lead staff meetings and performance reviews (as applicable).
- You will co-lead strategic planning and service line development.
- You will co-lead conflict resolution involving clinical and operational dynamics.
- You will continually review patient experience to ensure accountability and access.

Who we're looking for:
- You have earned your graduate degree in behavioral health (e.g. social work or Psychology) with at least five years of direct clinical experience and five years in a supervisory capacity.
- You currently have an unrestricted active, independent-level license in Arizona (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist) in the relevant discipline and as required by AZBBHE.
- You are currently a member of AZBBHE Clinical Supervisor Registry and you are in good standing.
- You are registered on CAQH for credentialing with health plans.
- You have a full understanding of HIPPA and protecting client confidentiality.
- You have demonstrated management skills, professional leadership, and managing a team of direct reports.
- You have demonstrated the ability to establish rapport and maintain effective communication with culturally diverse populations from a wide range of life circumstances and backgrounds.

- You are credentialed with Medicare, Arizona Medicaid (AHCCCS) and major commercial plans.
- You demonstrate a sound understanding of gender identity, gender expression, gender presentation, sex, and sexual orientation etc.
- You have experience applying National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) in a healthcare setting.
- You have knowledge of the complex issues marginalized populations are faced with and the barriers they experience accessing healthcare.
- You have knowledge of issues and community resources related to HIV/AIDS, chemical dependency, mental health, housing, health insurance, and other barriers.
Environmental Factors, Physical Requirements and Compliance
- Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
- Office environment, exposure to computer screens for lengthy periods of time.
- The position requires extensive use of computers using a standard computer keyboard.
- This position may require evening and occasional weekend work.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand; use hands, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
