Strategic Comp is currently searching for a Claims Director who will be responsible for the oversight and activities of a team of claims professionals in our Commercial Auto department. The person hired for this position will be responsible for the day-to-day work and activities of the team. Additionally, the Claims Director will be responsible for the performance, development and coaching of staff, including continuous learning and development of their team.

The Claims Director will primarily work from their home and will be required to attend quarterly claim meetings in Cincinnati with overnight travel. If based in Cincinnati headquarters, the Claims Director will work a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on fresh, creative approaches on every claim.
  • Communicate effectively and develop strong relationships with their team members.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to team members with special emphasis on litigation.
  • Plan for and ensure that budget and performance targets are met.
  • Interact with and make recommendations to executive management, underwriting and marketing on internal and external issues of strategic importance.
  • Affect settlements and reserves within prescribed limits of authority and submit recommendations to Divisional Vice President on cases exceeding personal authority.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Sedentary (requires prolonged sitting and use of a computer)
  • Occasional Travel (requires some overnight travel)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years of experience in commercial auto property damage and bodily injury claims is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct Commercial Auto team management experience is required, including direct handling or oversight of complex litigation, PIP and Med Pay claims.
  • Extensive background in coverage analysis, reserving, claims investigation, and litigation management is required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with a variety of internal and external contacts is required.
  • Current P&C licenses in Texas and Florida are required with the ability to obtain other jurisdictional licenses as required due to nationwide scope of claims inventory.
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Juris Doctorate preferred.
  • Typically manages 2 or more reports.
