Position Description
Reporting to the Cathedral Pastor, the Cathedral Director of Sacramental Life is a full-time position responsible for the development and implementation of the religious education and sacramental preparation programs offered to adults of the Cathedral community.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to Demonstrates behaviors in concert with the Cathedral mission, values, policies and procedures. Adheres to strict confidentiality policies.
Builds and maintains positive working relationships and communications with all constituencies, including pastoral ministry team, Cathedral and Archdiocesan staff, co-workers and volunteers.
Coordinates and executes all aspects of the OCIA Program and the Adult Confirmation Program Responsible for program design, class structure and curriculum following canonical and Archdiocesan guidelines; as well as building and maintaining volunteer base for implementation. Maintains accurate records, including sacramental registries and certificates. Schedules classes and Rites in consultation with pastor and associate pastor, liturgy director and liturgical staff. Coordinates facility usage and parking issues with appropriate staff.
With a focus on Faith Enrichment, builds a program to keep past OCIA and Confirmation members connected as active members of the Cathedral.
With support of Cathedral Communications Director, oversees promotion and advertisement of OCIA and Adult Confirmation, creating content, design, and schedules for website, social media, bulletin, and parish-wide communications.
Evaluates needs of the department on an annual basis, preparing budget, maintaining inventory and ordering supplies and textbooks.
Keeps a regular schedule and office hours to meet operational and program needs of the Cathedral. Program schedules and times to be determined.
Attends regularly scheduled Liturgy Department meetings and general staff meetings.
Supports Cathedral/Archdiocesan/USCCB Evangelization & Catechetical initiatives as needed, (i.e. “Eucharistic Revival”, Jubilee Years, World Marriage Sunday, etc.…)
Complies with Archdiocesan Safe Environment protocols and procedures.
Collaborates and serves in other areas of ministry as needed.
Ability to be flexible with time commitments and scheduling. Weekend work required. Requirements
Qualifications Practicing Catholic with the ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic Church.
Experience in parish faith formation or catechetical ministry (supervisory or leadership experience preferred)
Degree or commensurate experience in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field
Strong knowledge and understanding of Catholic doctrine, liturgy, and sacramental preparation
Communicate effectively both in written format and oral presentation; ability to maintain organization, multi-task and establish priorities; exhibit initiative, responsibility and flexibility; knowledge of software applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Finale, etc).
Ability to work collaboratively
Exercise judgment with a high level of confidentiality, working with sensitive and privileged information.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve complex problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities.
Availability to carry out responsibilities in the evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must successfully pass the required background check and all requirements of the Archdiocesan Program for Child and Youth Protection prior to employment and maintain a satisfactory background check throughout employment.
