About the Role
The Company is seeking a Board Member for its Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing the legacy of its founder, a renowned scientist and philanthropist. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and guidance for the Foundation's activities and grant programs, with a focus on supporting high-risk, interdisciplinary research in the fields of chemistry and life sciences. This role involves close collaboration with the Executive Director and the Science Advisory Council to ensure the effective implementation of the Foundation's mission. The ideal Board Member will have a strong background in scientific research, a deep understanding of the philanthropic landscape, and a commitment to the values of the Foundation.
Key responsibilities for the Board Member include directing the annual audit of the Foundation's financial statements, addressing any management or internal control deficiencies, and potentially serving as the Foundation's Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer. The role requires a candidate who is willing and able to take on these financial responsibilities, including providing second-level authorization for payments, executing investment activities, and supporting the Investment Committee. The Board Member will also be expected to actively participate in the Foundation's quarterly meetings, which may be held in person or virtually, and to contribute to the ongoing success of the Foundation's programs and initiatives.
