: Summary:
The Associate Director, WCL Abroad & Summer Programs is situated within the larger framework of International Legal Studies (ILSP) or International and Comparative Legal Studies (ICLS) at American University's Washington College of Law (AUWCL). In the role of the Associate Director, this position works closely with the Director of WCL Abroad and International Programs who in turn reports to Faculty Director of International Legal Studies Programwith offices in the International Suite at WCL. Specifically, the Associate Director oversees all JD study abroad advising and serves as the primary point of contact for all study abroad students at WCL managing all aspects of WCL’s semester exchange and international dual degree programs for JD studentsnearly 20 partner universities; facilities course registration and transfer of academic credits for all study abroad students; develops and maintains positive relationships with international partner institutions; and assesses current programs offerings and potential new international opportunities for strategic alignment. In addition, theAssociate Director leads the risk management process for all WCL student travel abroad (including ad hoc school sponsored foreign travel not related to WCL Abroad programming), coordinates comprehensive health/safety/security pre-departure orientations for all international student travelers, and is the point of contact for AU’s Global Safety Team. The Associate Director also implements, manages and maintains WCL’s Terra Dotta Study abroad platform and ensures program compliance with all ABA criteria. This position is responsible for marketing WCL’s many study-abroad opportunities to both WCL and non-WCL students, as well as helping to promote the international reputation of WCL’s international programs, including but not limited to the US World News Ranking, QS Ranking, and other international rankings. In this capacity, the Associate Director reports to the Director of WCL Abroad and International Programs. This position independently oversees all aspects of the summer abroad programs in London, Brussels, and Geneva (and potentially other future programs). Specifically, advises all WCL and non-WCL students on summer abroad opportunities; reviews all applications, assists faculty in development of ABA compliant courses and site visits, secures program hotel lodging for participating students, faculty and staff; oversees all contracts with outside international vendors, ensures appropriate meeting space for classes abroad; manages all program networking and job (internship) seeking events: coordinates with AU’s Procurement Team and WCL’s Finance Team for necessary approvals; creatively market WCL’s Summer in Europe program to WCL and non-WCL students; and assesses opportunities for potential new summer abroad programs and opportunities. In addition, spends a substantial amount of time on site in Europe during the summer facilitating program, making sure the program is ABA compliant, facilitating the program and serving as the primarypoint of contact for students abroad and the intermediary between students and faculty. In this capacity, the Associate Director reports to the Faculty Director of ILSP. Essential Functions: 1.) Administers WCL Study Abroad Programs and JD Student Counseling Oversee, design and administer all study abroad programs, including semester exchanges, dual degrees, summer abroad programs and short-term student abroad activities.
Advise current and prospective WCL students on study abroad opportunities and how they fit within short-term and long-termacademic and career goals, as well as advise students abroad and serve their primary point of contact at WCL.
Create and administer the application and admissions process for all study abroad students.
Collaborate with WCL Registrar to ensure course registration of all study abroad students, assess transcripts of student abroad students from international partner institutions, and facilitate transfer of academic credit.
Maintain and update multiple study abroad web pages on WCL web site and Terra Dotta Platform, including detailed information about each program (curriculum, academic dates, contact staff and professors) and annually update guidelines for each abroad program.
Prepare marketing materials, hold information sessions, participate in the International Opportunities Fair, and engage in law school wide events relating to study abroad.
Complete the study abroad portions of various reporting requirements, including from the ABA, in a timely and accurate fashion. Ensure all summer abroad programs are ABA compliant and have timely filed all annual, new program and site visit reports.
In addition to the students enrolled in programs, the Associate Director advises current and prospective students about abroad programs participates in sessions coordinated by other offices (such as Admitted Students Days and Orientation).
2.) Summer Abroad Programs Lead and oversee independently all aspects of the Summer in Europe program taking place in London, Brussels and Geneva each summer and any other future summer programs abroad.
Advise WCL and non-WCL students on summer abroad programs opportunities, including how the summer program aligns with their educational and career objectives (career counseling).
Manage the entire application and selection process of all Summer in Europe participants.
Select faculty (in coordination with Faculty Director of ILSP/ICLS) and collaborate to ensure that all courses' schedules and site visits are ABA compliant.
Secure program lodging in London, Brussels and Geneva for the duration of the program for all students, faculty and staff.
Procure classroom space as needed.
Plan and execute all on-site events, including networking receptions and payments in coordination with AU procurement and WCL Finance.
Market the Summer in Europe program to WCL and non-WCL students through a variety of channels, including information sessions, social media, print, student group, collaboration etc.
Work with the WCL Registrar to ensure that course registration and admission of visiting student participants.
Serve as on-site program director in Europe during courses when feasible or oversee the selection and assignment of an on-site coordinator as needed.
Manage all aspects of the summer program budget.
The Associate Director during this time will be working overtime including weekends and evenings supporting students and faculty and will be paid a stipend for that extra time.
3.) Manage Risk Management for JD International Travel Develop and administer the risk management process for all WCL students traveling internationally.
Manage registration for all international traveling students in Terra Dotta’s Enterprise Travel Registry system.
Lead the pre-departure orientation to share health, safety and security information with WCL students traveling abroad.
Prepare a comprehensive Travel Memo for WCL Finance Team for each student group traveling abroad.
Collaborate with AU’s Global Safety team on risk management process and compliance.
4.) Collaborate in International Ranking and Reputation Collaborate in understanding the rankings and methodology including coordinating with partners with particular emphasis (but not limited to) QS Ranking and Times Higher Education.
Supervisory Responsibility: The position may supervise one full-time coordinator and supervise graduate assistants and/or deans' fellow(student positions) as available.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-Time.
35 hours per week.
This position will require occasional working hours outside of the regular 9am - 5pm workday (attendance at occasional evening and weekend on-campus events).
Salary Range: $72,000 - $80,000 annually.
Required Education and Experience: ​​Juris Doctor or equivalent​.​​
3 - 5 years of relevant experience.​
The position requires excellent organizational, research, writing, and communication skills.
This position requires an independent decision maker who is comfortable working with minimum supervision yet who remains flexible, collaborative and creative.
The successful employee is an accountable, highly motivated and organized person who prioritizes and works well under pressure.
The position requires a thorough knowledge of foreign and domestic law curriculum, an understanding of diverse foreign cultures and customs, as well as excellent organizational, research, writing, interpersonal, social and communication skills.
Preferred Education and Experience: ​​Juris Doctor​.
Preferred minimum of three years of full-time work experience in an international legal environment. ​​​
Fluency in a second language is highly desirable.
Travel Required: 1 - 2 weeks per year and will need to be available 24/7 while in country to support program and student needs.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance: Yes; candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
