About the role:
The Associate Tax Director is responsible for managing the tax reporting processes including federal, state, local, premium tax returns and indirect taxes as well as supporting the tax provision processes under Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP) and Statutory reporting along with tax planning and projects.
You will report into the Sr. Director, Tax.
Work Location: This position is based in our NYC office, requiring a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule. #LI-Hybrid
Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $158,400 - $207,900 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities:
Manage the compliance processes of the U.S. federal, state, and local tax returns and estimates for the corporate holding companies and insurance subsidiaries.
Manage the premium tax process of the insurance subsidiaries.
Lead tax responses to audits and notices.
Manage compliance with indirect tax compliance functions including sale and use tax.
Support the annual and quarterly GAAP and Statutory tax provision processes.
Ensure integrity of tax accounting and compliance results using technology solutions.
Prepare financial data and analysis to support tax forecasting and projects.
Partner with areas of Finance and the business to address tax issues and meet organizational objectives.
Stay abreast and educate others on developments within the insurance tax area and their implications to the Company.
Identify and support the development and implementation of tax strategies and planning opportunities.
Identify opportunities and lead processes to streamline tax compliance and provide analytical insights.
Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, or 4 years commensurate experience.
7+ years of tax experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a corporate tax department.
Proficient in using code and regulations.
Experience with state tax nexus considerations.
Strong knowledge in sales and use taxes.
Strong knowledge in ASC 740.
2+ years experience as a team leader.
Bonus points:
CPA and/or Master's of Taxation.
Statement of Statutory Accounting Principle (SSAP) 101 reporting.
Thorough knowledge of domestic tax issues affecting U.S. insurance companies.
Experience with implementing tax provision software.
Working with large data sets to build models and leverage tools.
