Overview Associate Director, Software Architect – AI/ML at Takeda. Based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities Architect and develop AI/ML-driven software for R&D, including large language model services and multiagent orchestration to solve R&D challenges (e.g. knowledge extraction, medical writing, drug design, clinical trial optimization).
Define and document the end-to-end technical architecture for new and existing software applications, including system components, services, and integrations.
Develop and maintain the long-term technical roadmap, ensuring it aligns with business goals and industry best practices.
Lead the design of robust, scalable, and secure solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, languages, and tools; drive build-vs-buy analyses and partner ecosystem solutions when appropriate.
Establish and enforce architectural standards, coding best practices, and design patterns across the R&D organization; promote modern architectural paradigms (microservices, event-driven, serverless).
Provide technical leadership to multiple agile teams; mentor engineers to foster technical excellence and innovation.
Collaborate with product managers, business analysts and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical designs.
Partner with DevOps to ensure CI/CD and operational excellence of the architecture.
Think creatively to envision bold AI innovations and translate visions into production-ready solutions.
Qualifications BS degree in computer science, engineering or related field; MS or higher preferred.
8+ years of experience in architecting, building, launching, and maintaining end-to-end ML systems at scale; hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic AI frameworks.
Experience with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and ML Ops concepts (testing, retraining, monitoring in production).
Experience with cross-functional collaboration to deploy data solutions in production.
Strong communication, prioritization, and interpersonal skills; ability to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences.
Ability to work in a global matrix organization with uncertainty; agile, adaptable, and change-driven.
Life sciences or healthcare experience is desirable.
Location and Compensation Location: Boston, MA? U.S. Base Salary Range: $153,600.00 - $241,340.00 per year. The actual base salary offered depends on qualifications, experience, skills, and location as applicable.
