Our Work Stanford University School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated and experienced Associate Director for School Operations . This role provides strategic oversight of financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing financial reporting, and fostering transparency and accountability. The successful candidate will support our mission of advancing health through research and education.
The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean, Financial Controller and acts as a strategic advisor to the Fiscal Affairs Leadership Team, overseeing financial reporting for the School ($4.2B revenue) and Clinical Operations ($1.7B revenue).
Duties Include: Design and maintain organizational structure; oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation.
Lead financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives; direct business operations.
Identify and resolve strategic issues affecting the organization.
Make decisions based on complex analyses and financial modeling; support leadership decisions.
Provide strategic direction and influence university finance and accounting policies.
Establish internal controls to protect university resources.
Collaborate on business and technology initiatives across the university.
Lead process redesign and major projects; drive implementation.
Represent the school at university and external levels.
Desired Qualifications: Education & Experience (Required): Masters degree and eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required): Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of Oracle or similar systems.
Strong understanding of financial principles and excellent communication skills.
Analytical skills for complex financial review; leadership and strategic management experience.
Ability to delegate and manage high-volume work; knowledge of property management and sponsored project administration.
Experience working with PIs, research offices, and external sponsors; meticulous and compliant work ethic.
Physical Requirements: Constant sitting; desk tasks; occasional standing, lifting (up to 20 lbs), and reaching.
Working Conditions: Extended hours during peak periods; travel across university sites.
The expected pay range is $194,522 - $245,373 annually. Stanford offers a comprehensive rewards package detailed on the Cardinal at Work website. Salary will depend on qualifications and other factors.
