Associate Director Of R&D Electrical And Mechanical Engineering
The Associate Director of R&D Electrical and Mechanical Engineering is a strategic leadership role within BD's Urological and Critical Care (UCC) division. This position leads a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for the design and development of innovative medical technologies across UCC's diverse portfolio, including Endourology, Targeted Temperature Management, Acute Care, and Homecare. The role spans the full product lifecyclefrom early concept and technology exploration through design, verification, and validation, to commercialization and sustaining engineering. The successful candidate will guide the integration of cutting-edge electrical and mechanical design into clinically impactful solutions that enhance outcomes across critical care settings.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing R&D team focused on electrical and mechanical engineering within the UCC division.
- Oversee early-stage concept development, technology scouting, prototyping, and system architecture across multiple product lines.
- Ensure seamless execution and transition from concept through development, verification, launch, and post-market support.
- Drive engineering excellence across complex electromechanical systems, emphasizing reliability, manufacturability, and patient safety.
- Translate clinical and customer needs into robust design inputs and technical architectures aligned with regulatory and quality standards.
- Manage engineering project resourcing, timelines, and budgets across concurrent development programs.
- Champion design control compliance in accordance with global regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485).
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to ensure successful program delivery.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent; foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical rigor.
- Represent the R&D function in internal reviews and with external partners, suppliers, and clinical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; Master's or PhD preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in medical device R&D with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated expertise in both electrical and mechanical engineering, including systems integration and electromechanical product development.
- Proven track record of bringing Class II or III medical devices from concept to commercialization.
- Deep knowledge of design controls, risk management, verification/validation, and sustaining engineering.
- Experience leading multifunctional technical teams and managing complex product portfolios.
- Strong business acumen and ability to align technical execution with broader strategic objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $154,400.00 - $254,800.00 USD Annual and the compensation offered will depend on the candidate's qualifications.

For most roles, we require a minimum of 4 days of in-office presence per week to maintain our culture of excellence and ensure smooth operations, while also recognizing the importance of flexibility and work-life balance.
