Summary Sony Corporation of America (SCA) is seeking an Associate Director, Privacy to join the Sony Group Corporation DX group in London, San Diego, or Los Angeles. This position reports to DX leadership and is managed daily by the Privacy Officer (Senior Counsel), Sony Group Corporation Privacy Section. The role involves establishing and maintaining an enterprise-wide privacy vision, data strategy, and privacy program to protect Sony’s information assets, services, and products, thereby building trust with customers and stakeholders and safeguarding customer and employee privacy.
Responsibilities
Promote and ensure compliance with global privacy regulations and program requirements, focusing on emerging technologies such as AI, digital transformation projects, account consolidation/unified ID, and global product privacy, supporting both Japan and U.S. stakeholders.
Support global privacy projects related to protecting personal data of customers, employees, talents, and third parties.
Provide expertise in privacy impact assessments and privacy management across the company.
Consult with various teams on privacy issues and the integration of Sony’s privacy framework and best practices.
Stay informed on applicable privacy laws, regulations, and technological advancements, especially concerning consumer accounts, data sharing, AI, connected vehicles, and consumer products.
Collaborate with IT and Digital Transformation teams to improve governance, controls, and documentation, and address compliance findings.
Assist in developing and delivering privacy training and awareness programs across the enterprise to enhance employee understanding, particularly regarding privacy-enhancing technologies.
Qualifications
8-10 years of practical data privacy experience, possibly in compliance, legal, information security, IT, or consulting roles.
Hands-on privacy experience; certifications such as CIPP or CIPT are highly preferred.
Japanese language skills are a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, law, management, or related fields.
Experience with global privacy programs, including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA.
Experience drafting privacy compliance documentation for consumer products/services.
Practical advice on privacy technologies and impact assessments.
Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex issues clearly to diverse audiences.
Team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective at managing multiple priorities and responding to emergencies.
Willingness to travel internationally up to 20%.
Legal right to work unrestricted in the UK (and the U.S. if necessary).
