Under the supervision of the Director of International Admission, the Associate Director of International Admission (ADIA) is responsible for oversight and execution of key aspects of the College's international recruitment strategy. Primary project responsibilities include management of the alum admission volunteer program and student ambassador programs and collaboration with the Marketing and Communications department on social media initiatives designed for international students. The incumbent will represent the College in international recruitment efforts, both in the United States and overseas, including six to ten weeks per of travel as part of their regional admission recruitment territory management and relationship building. Application reading and selection, as well as data analysis are also key responsibilities. In addition to the supervision of students and alum volunteers, the ADIA may supervise members of the admission staff.
The ADIA is a key member of the Office of Admission, charged with attracting ambitious and independent-minded students to Mount Holyoke's inclusive and socially conscious community of 2,200 students. The successful candidate must thrive and be adaptive in a fast-paced environment in which responsibilities may shift and evolve in response to changing institutional priorities and external market forces. A spirit of collaboration within the department, possibly supporting domestic admission initiatives, and with key stakeholders across campus is essential.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Travel & Recruitment
- Travel approximately 6-10 weeks per year (fall and spring), sometimes in collaboration with other colleges, visiting high schools overseas and delivering key messages about the College in public presentations to diverse audiences; discerning the most appropriate style of communication to effectively deliver messages to each unique audience population; creating electronic visuals to accompany the presentation.
- Plan recruitment trips in assigned travel territory (including liaison work with schools, counselors, and other educational stakeholders, in addition to prospective students and families).
- Collaborate on program development, organization, and implementation of strategic admission initiatives relating to international recruitment and travel.
- Represent the College internationally, at high schools and other recruitment venues. Staff college fairs, conduct interviews, deliver group information sessions, and represent the college at off-campus events
- Create videos, as needed, to explain aspects of Mount Holyoke's admission process and as required for virtual recruitment activities.
Reading & Evaluation
- Partner with the Director of International Admission to assign reading territories, monitor staff reading progress, develop communication about incomplete applications and train domestic staff to understand English proficiency expectations and required financial qualifications.
- Read and evaluate applications from assigned territories.
- Guide and support applicants within assigned territories, including individualized outreach.
- Consult with colleagues in Mount Holyoke's Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) in the event of need-sensitive admission decisions.
Reporting & Analytics
- Partner with the Director of International Admission to use coding tools to provide a hierarchy of possible decisions for each candidate.
- Assess effectiveness of annual recruitment travel by using data analytics platforms and information; recommend changes and suggest new approaches in annual report format.
Program Responsibilities
- Oversee international alum admission volunteer program.
- Manage an international admission student ambassador program.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications department on social media content for the international market.
- Coordinate and manage specific constituent relationships or projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Certifications
1. Required
- Bachelor's degree; a minimum of five years professional experience in international admission, preferably in a selective college/university environment, including international recruitment travel. Candidates with less than the desired range of direct international admission related experience may be considered at the assistant director level, possibly with a narrower portfolio
- Knowledge of a wide range of foreign education systems and testing
- Ability to use data to make strategic decisions
- Knowledge of major English proficiency tests
- Knowledge of Technolutions Slate or similar CRM
- Established relationships with college counselors and international admission colleagues
- A history of public presentations, including conferences such as International ACAC or the Council of International Schools
- Strong facility with Google Suite and Microsoft 365
- Experience setting up and conducting Zoom meetings and webinars, utilizing appropriate visuals
- Experience arranging admission events at venues in other countries
- Superior oral, analytic and written communication skills; effective public speaking; an ability to engage with large and small audiences of prospective students, families, and college counselors
- Ability to work collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors
- An appreciation of the liberal arts and an ability to communicate its value in a women's college context
- Sense of humor and ability to remain flexible in carrying out multiple projects and tasks, sometimes with changing priorities
2. Preferred
- Enthusiasm and appreciation for the mission of women's colleges
- Experience managing student employees
- Experience managing vendor relationships
- Experience working with alum volunteers
- Passion for traveling independently and an interest in learning about different cultures
- Proficiency in more than one language is preferred
Hiring Range: $60,957 - $68,577
