General Description:
The Associate Director of Data Warehouse & Data Architect will maintain the existing ETLs for all production dashboards and projects, and will lead the expansion and overall life cycle management of NOVA’s data infrastructure and systems. The position will collaborate with various stakeholders to create data architecture solutions and to ensure efficient and effective data management and utilization across the institution. It will supervise a Database Administrator, SAS programmers, and Data Quality specialist, as well as any other staff needed to maintain the data systems of the college.
Duties and Tasks:
Collaborate with stakeholders, both internally and externally to understand their data requirements and translate them into data architecture solutions, taking into consideration data integration, data quality, data governance, and assess existing data systems.
Manage a team of programmers and analysts to translate end-user requirements into datasets, scheduled ETLs, and documentation for accessing data needed for critical day-to-day processes across the college
Design quality checks to monitor changes in data flow, and develop strategies that maximize availability while documenting root problems and establishing safeguards for data flow
Design and develop data architecture strategies that align with the institution’s goals and objectives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of data systems.
Identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies for data consolidation, migration, and modernization.
Create and maintain data models, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams to document and communicate the structure and relationships of data entities.
Work closely with IT teams to implement and optimize data storage, data processing, and data retrieval systems, leveraging appropriate technologies and tools.
Define, publish and enforce data standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency across the institution.
Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications Required KSAs:
Knowledge and ability in SQL, scripting languages and data tools for data manipulation and transformation.
Knowledge of data pipeline and workflow management tools.
Knowledge in architecting data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.
Knowledge of Software as a service (SaaS) applications, and their integration from a dataflow perspective.
Knowledge of industry trends and standards
Ability to create data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, and/or Excel.
Working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server, as well as cloud technologies.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical data solutions.
Ability to keep up to date knowledge of industry trends and standards.
Ability to deliver quality systems within a management-approved schedule, and to work on technical teams as needed.
Ability to lead/manage projects and be accountable for project development and execution; manage the details of a project while remaining aware of the overall application/business requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience supervising a team of specialists and managing stakeholder expectations
Experience in data architecture principles, methodologies, and best practices and data modeling
Experience in architecting data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.
Experience with communicating verbally and writing to a wide audience.
Experience in leading/managing projects and accountability for project development and execution
Additional Considerations Additional Considerations:
Experience developing data systems.
Experience working with data modeling tools and techniques, such as ER modeling, dimensional modeling, and metadata management.
Experience of Software as a service (SaaS) applications, and their integration from a dataflow perspective.
Experience in creating data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, and/or Excel.
Extensive hands-on experience with database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL) and data integration technologies (e.g., ETL tools, APIs).
Experience across the entire spectrum of data engineering, including data stores, data pipeline and workflow orchestration, and data messaging.
Experience of data warehousing technologies, current business intelligence reporting tools and project management skills.
Experience in the design, planning and development of a data warehouse.
Experience in data modeling, data integration, and data management; SQL, scripting languages and data tools for data manipulation and transformation; use and application of workflow management tools.
