POSITION SUMMARY HIAS seeks an Associate Director, Mass Market Fundraising & Supporter Engagement to manage the day-to-day operations of our mass market fundraising program and to help execute strategies that grow and sustain our standard donor base (those giving $0–$25,000 annually). Reporting to the Associate Vice President, this role plays a critical part in building integrated donor experiences across email, SMS, digital advertising, and direct mail.
The Associate Director will develop compelling donor communications, oversee multi-channel campaign execution, and support strategic efforts to move donors along the giving pipeline. The ideal candidate is a creative storyteller and strong project manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is deeply committed to donor-centric fundraising.
Note, this position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland or our office in New York, New York, and we will consider a remote option for applicants who live outside of commuting distance to either of our offices and are based in other states in which we are registered (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin).
The salary range for this position is $87,750-100,000.00.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collaborate with Associate Vice President to develop and execute comprehensive mass market fundraising and supporter engagement strategies
Implement integrated digital campaigns across email, social media, website, and emerging platforms
Contribute to efforts that support donor upgrade pathways in collaboration with the mid-level and major gifts teams.
Creative Writes and edits compelling fundraising copy for all email campaigns, including appeals, newsletters, and stewardship communications
Develop persuasive web content for donation pages, campaign landing pages, and website fundraising sections
Creates cultivation content that builds donor relationships and communicates organizational impact
Writes advocacy copy that mobilizes supporters for action campaigns and policy initiatives
Craft donor communications across the giving journey, from acquisition to retention messaging
Adapt messaging for different audience segments based on giving history, interests, and engagement levels
Campaign Management Oversee end-to-end campaign development from concept through execution and analysis
Support integration between direct mail and digital outreach to ensure unified messaging and donor experience.
Track timelines, deliverables, and approvals for all active campaigns.
Technology Lead digital fundraising platform management and optimization, including syncing with our database of record
Manage marketing automation workflows for donor stewardship and cultivation
Oversee website fundraising functionality, including donation pages, landing pages, and user experience optimization
Stay current with fundraising technology trends and recommend platform improvements or changes
Data Monitor and analyze key performance indicators including conversion rates, average gift size, donor retention, and lifetime value
Incorporate A/B testing on campaigns, messaging, and donation processes to optimize performance
Maintain donor database integrity and implement data-driven segmentation strategies
Manage and mentor fundraising team members, including coordinators and specialists
Collaborate with marketing, communications, and program teams to ensure aligned messaging
Work closely with revenue operations team on gift processing, reporting, and compliance requirements
Partner with mid-level and major gifts team to ensure seamless donor experience across giving levels
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Undergraduate degree, preferably in a relevant field
5-7 years of relevant professional experience
Proven track record of managing successful multi-channel fundraising campaigns
Experience with fundraising databases and CRM systems (Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar platforms)
Proficiency in writing for digital channels with knowledge of email best practices and web conversion optimization
Ability to write in organization’s voice while adapting tone for different campaigns and audiences
Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data and make strategic recommendations
Project management experience with ability to handle multiple campaigns and deadlines simultaneously
Leadership experience with demonstrated ability to manage and develop team members
Creative problem-solving skills and ability to innovate within budget constraints
Knowledge of refugee and/or asylum issues preferred
