Overview Associate Director for Student Life - Brower Student Center at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). This role serves as area lead for the Brower Student Center (BSC), reporting to the Executive Director of Student Life. The position involves staff supervision and development, daily management, and operation of a multipurpose student center, including Reservations, Service areas (Game Room, Information Desk and Digital Signage), event/space usage, facility upkeep, risk management, and coordination with internal clients and dining services. The role requires creativity, initiative, and collaborative work to advance programmatic and physical development of the facility.
Responsibilities
Leadership: Provide innovative leadership and vision for the Brower Student Center and its spaces; develop collaborative programs, policies, and services; balance space use, reservations, events, furniture, technology, and student-first service; use assessments and student input to inform change; collaborate with other Office of Student Life leads to advance the unit’s vision.
Facilities Management: Design, deploy, and assess space use strategies; manage facilities needs; develop multi-year renewal and enhancement plans with identified funding sources.
Supervision: Supervise and develop the Brower Student Center team, including direct supervision of the Assistant Director and BSC Operations Manager; ensure compliance with policies and standards; establish after-hours procedures.
Budget: Create annual and long-term budgets; manage operating, programming, and capital improvement budgets; explore revenue opportunities; set rates for rooms, equipment, and digital signage; use assessments to guide priorities.
Policy Development and Enforcement: Develop and update BSC policies and handbook; address concerns from students, staff, and the campus community; ensure cross-education with OSL policies.
Assessment & Input: Implement longitudinal assessment plans; engage students to evaluate ideas and facility use; lead Student Government BSC committee to review outcomes and needs; use data to adjust services.
Collaboration: Build relationships with college units and external vendors; coordinate with Conference and Events Services for third-party use; serve as primary decision-maker for scheduling, maintenance, and emergencies at the BSC.
Qualifications
Required:
Master’s degree in Higher Education, HRIM, or related field
3 years of full-time professional experience in Student Center Administration within a college setting
Overall knowledge of Student Union administration
Ability to lead a staff, develop a shared vision, and measure/achieve learning outcomes; strong oral and written communication
Strong organizational skills and the ability to implement, supervise, and lead
Ability to multitask and train/develop staff
Commitment to inclusive space, policies, and programming for diverse populations
Preferred:
5 years of full-time professional experience in Student Center Administration
Experience with professional supervision
Active involvement with ACUI or similar organizations
