Reporting to the Deputy Athletics Director for External Operations & Chief Revenue Officer, this position is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic marketing and ticket sales plans for GW Athletics, with a primary focus on the flagship men's and women's basketball programs. This individual will partner with all athletics' external operations, including ticketing, communications, corporate partnerships, creative services, as well as university and community partners, to increase attendance, maximize revenues, deliver an outstanding game day experience, and enhance the brand of GW Athletics and the university.
Responsibilities Provide overall strategic vision and direction for the marketing and ticketing units, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and long-term growth initiatives.
Develop and implement marketing and sales strategies in support of annual and long-term revenue and attendance goals.
Serve as the primary marketing representative for GW's flagship men's and women's basketball programs and oversee the development and implementation of marketing and sales strategies for men's and women's basketball.
Determine appropriate budget expenditures and allocations relative to the implementation of marketing plans, including analyzing return on investment of advertising spend and marketing investments.
Develop impactful and innovative game day environments through game presentation efforts (scripting, promotions, video, music, entertainment, band and spirit program performances) to create a competitive home team advantage and enhance the experience of students, ticket purchasers and all guests.
Develop and implement creative services strategies across all sports, including digital marketing to increase brand awareness and drive attendance.
Partner with GW's third-party multimedia rights provider to support sales efforts and create sponsor activations that enhance the game day experience and engage fans.
Partner with University Advancement on alumni, letterwinner, and student engagement initiatives, programs and events.
Oversee a team of student marketing and fan experience staff, including development and implementation of campus engagement initiatives and execution.
Oversee GW spirit squads, including George the mascot, Cheerleading, and the First Ladies dance team, and liaison to The Foghorns pep band and George's Army student section.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated success in revenue generation, brand management, and fan experience enhancement.
Strong knowledge of current and emerging industry requirements and best practices in areas of marketing, fan engagement, and revenue creation.
Strong working knowledge of the development and implementation of marketing plans and engagement strategies that will lead to revenue generation.
Experience providing creative direction for photo and video features, graphic design projects, and social media campaigns.
Experience planning and implementing a variety of game day presentations and special events, including those that require live production.
Experience working with campus partners (students, faculty, and staff) to build support and affinity for GW Athletics is valued.
Experience working with athletics spirit groups (spirit teams, mascots, fan groups, and pep bands) to enhance the game-day experience.
Experience in athletics marketing and sales whether at the collegiate, professional or similar environments.
Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across units and teams to achieve common goals.
