Assistant Sports Information Director

The position will assist in all aspects of the Suffolk University Sports Information Operation, including producing timely content for athletic publications, both internally and externally, managing the department’s social media presence across multiple platforms, and ensuring the implementation of all gameday needs. He or she will also serve as the primary media contact for a number of the University’s 20 intercollegiate sports based on the candidate’s knowledge and experience. This is a 9-month position. The Assistant SID will be asked to lend expertise in other areas essential to the overall success of Suffolk Athletics’ Sports Information. Some of these aspects may include:

Ability to recognize and promote individual features, volunteerism and other newsworthy activities by our scholar-athletes Graphic Design Photography and videography Assist with annual/bi-annual events like Hall of Fame, Day of Giving, Fan Fest, Alumni Games Primary Responsibilities: Produce relevant original content via written, audio/visual (website, game-day program, event programs, previews and recaps, media guides, features stories) and short form (social media) to promote Suffolk University student-athletes, programs, coaches, games and athletics events (home and away) on athletics’ internal vehicles and to university and external media. Collect, verify, record and report all official results and award nominations, both academic and athletic, to conference/national offices. Responsible to produce excellent photography and videography of student-athletes/teams for use in variety of settings, purposes and publications Cover all “home” game needs including live streams and statistics. Compile statistics, report to NCAA, conference offices and opponents with proper post-game coverage, including, but not limited to game recaps and social media posts across appropriate platforms. Contribute to social media strategy through management of the athletic department’s official accounts by carrying out publicity on these platforms and participating in content planning and execution Assist in the promotion and marketing of the Athletic Department through special projects and events Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelors degree in journalism and/or communication or from another related field Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and non-verbal communication Strong general computer, software, technology and specific database management skills including: Microsoft Office, StatCrew, Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, InDesign and Premiere Proven ability to be organized, multi-task effectively, prioritize emerging tasks appropriately, work independently and within a collaborative team Writing experience (sports writing) Prior experience working in a college athletic environment is preferred Familiarity and understanding of Presto Sports web content management system preferred Photography and video knowledge Ability to attend evening and weekend games and events as well as ability to travel Must be willing to work nights and weekends as well as regular office hours
