Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Recreation & Wellness/Intramural & Club Sports reports to the Director of Recreation & Wellness. The Assistant Director has the responsibility for planning, organizing, supervising, and implementing comprehensive intramural, and club sports programs. Vital components of this position include a strong commitment to teamwork and student development, along with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hire, supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate all intramural and club sport staff.
- Develop, implement, schedule and market intramural and club sport programming.
- Collect and provide the Director of Recreation & Wellness with statistical data related to intramural and club sports.
- Maintain and improve intramural and club sport portion of the university's website.
- Develop and implement appropriate intramural and club sport schedules and staff training.
- Maintain, distribute and be responsible for budgets (allocating and overseeing) for club sports and intramurals.
- Prepare facilities (Fields/courts) and equipment for regular use.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures in the intramural and club sport area.
- Oversee the scheduling/payroll of student staff for intramurals and club sports.
- Work cooperatively with university user groups.
- Maintain regular communication with the Campus Environment department regarding field conditions.
- Develop and continually update a comprehensive manual of policies, procedures and risk management guidelines for the intramural and club sport programs.
- Be able to work on a flexible schedule to accommodate programming needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Major Tasks
The Assistant Director is responsible for overall administration of all intramural and club sport programs. This includes planning, organizing, supervising, scheduling, budgeting, policy development, marketing, staff development, discipline, and student training. Responsibilities also include supervising occasional evening and weekend programs, as well as special events. The Assistant Director manages approximately fifteen student employees for the IM/Club Sport programs. Additionally, the Assistant Director serves as a representative for Recreation & Wellness at university Admissions and Orientation events.
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, sports administration, or related field.
- At least two (2) years' experience and proven success in intramural or club sport programming or the equivalent
- Minimum 0ne (1) year of experience supervising student personnel.
- Previous experience in facility management preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to attain certification within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Sports Management or related field and experience working in a college setting.
Salary/Benefits
Salary:
$43,888 - $45,000/year
(Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications).
