Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Camp & Youth will assist the Director of Camp & Youth in planning, staffing and implementation of both programs.
A primary responsibility of this and all other jobs at the JCC is to ensure by whatever rational and reasonable means necessary that each and every member, guest and visitor leaves the JCC feeling just a little better than when they arrived.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
After School Care
- Assist in planning and preparing daily activities and special events
- Work with Food Services to order healthy and cost-effective snacks
- Assist Director with all paperwork relevant to ASC operations including attendance sheets, room reservations and set-ups, purchase orders
- Assist Director with purchasing supplies and maintaining inventory
- Assist Director with billing and attendance records related to ASC enrollment
- Assist with planning all school break programming
- Assist Director in communicating with parents regarding absences, changes in transportation, individual behavior reports, schools’ days out information, etc.
- Delegate tasks appropriately to counselors as fit their individual abilities and professional developmental paths
- Assist Director in recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, and development of youth programming staff
- Assist in supervision staff during after-school care program hours; be available to provide direct service care on an as-needed basis
- With the Director, directly staff all schools out day programs
- Communicate with other departments/directors regarding availability of programming space
Camp
- Assist in recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision and development of Camp staff
- Maintain communication with camp parents throughout the summer
- Assist in supervision of counselors
- Ensure snacks are distributed to appropriate location at appropriate time
- Assist Director in planning and organizing upcoming Summer Camp Program
- Assist Director with billing and attendance records related to Camp enrollment
- Communicate with other departments/directors regarding availability of programming space
- Assist Director in scheduling transportation for camp field trips
- Staff school break programming & special events
- Assist in any marketing/social media campaigns or presence
Youth Programming & ECE
- Assist Directors to plan and execute both small- and large-scale youth and family programs
- Assist in ECE on an as-needed basis
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum 2 years work-related experience including youth program planning and implementation, supervision, and administrative management
- CPR, First Aid certification required
- Valid driver’s license required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Solid understanding of Jewish customs and traditions
- Proven ability to use good judgement in all situations
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with staff members as well as member of the community
- Must exhibit thorough understanding of child development
- Must be self-motivated, reliable, and innovative and exhibit high energy and a positive attitude
- Proven skills in staff supervision, team building, and conflict resolution
- Proven ability to use MS Office applications and the ability to learn and use proprietary database
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organization and time management skills, with flexibility to handle multiple tasks effectively
- Ability to work well with teams as well as independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work flexible hours (including evenings) in fast-paced work environment with constant mobility

- Standard office equipment including telephone, copier, fax, computer, laminator
- MS Office and other proprietary programs
- 2-way radios
- iPads
- Golf carts
Work Environment
- Works in a noisy, fast paced environment both indoors and outdoors
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 45 lbs.
- Must be able to operate a golf cart.
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including daily exposure to sun, heat, water and insects
- Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
- Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff
- Must possess visual acuity to monitor campers and staff outdoors and at a distance
- Must possess the vocal acuity to communicate with campers and staff outdoors and at a distance and indoors with high levels of noise
- Prolonged standing, some bending, and walking required
